my auntie used to breed welshies 35+ odd years ago and she had a mare who was in foal with twins very rare and usually these days the vet can pinch one so there is only one foal but 35 years ago they didnt do this in australia. the mare was induced not by my aunts choise and only 1 foal survived he was raised in a home made humidy crib in the bathroom of her family home and his life was saved. he was put to sleep this year at the ripe age of 35 he was in the family all that time. shame his twin didnt make it tho so sad. if anyone would like to see news paper clippings and photos of deak as a foal in the bathroom email me raq_05@aapt.net.au would be happy to share.

I see. I wasn't sure. I dont have horses, so I wasnt sure of the behavior. I do love them though, and love watching.

Stephanie you will see behaviour that appears to be mean, but the foal can't stay latchend on all the time - the nipples get very sore so they don't always stand for the foal. Wishy is the same way but with persistence the foal will win.

Inducing is very dangerous and only done in exteme circumstances. From what I understand if you induce labor without the cervix being dilated it can tear and seriously injure the mare...possibly permanently. I am not an expert by any means and we have never had to have it done, praying we never have to.

Hi all - I was wondering if inducing labor is ever done. Thanks, Ellen

Is Tess ok? I seen her walking away trying to avoid feeding her foal. Is that normal?

Hey all!!! I didn't get a chance to wan you about Wishy - hope you were able to catch the foaling. We have guests in town and we were making them breakfast...my moderators from Mare Stare called to tell me she was acting ready...she interrupted my breakfast, but it was so worth it.

Wishy has a beautiful colt....and Shannon was giving her banamine IV because she tore during foaling. If the tear is bad enough she will have to be suturied but we'll see. The vet won't suture when it's swollen so we have to wait.

Thanks for joining us. I hope Cinny & Ace are next!!

What was Shannon doing to Wishy when you put a bridle on her? I saw her then hand you something. Shannon you do a great job with the mares and foals, you appear so patient and gentle, your Mom is lucky to have your help!
