I think this horse is so cool. She is a 3.5 year old Appentix QH with lots of growing and filling out to do in the next few years. She is going to be awesome & she is soooo sweet and loving. Judy, do they even sell the Levels programs any more? Even though the basics stay the same, the things they sell seem to be forever changing. They seem to always be attempting to make the learning process clearer when so many are trying to do 'horsemanship homeschooling'. I really wish I had someone local that could critic me on the little stuff...the fine tuning that can make such a huge difference in how well we communicate and in not giving off mixed signals that we can't see in ourselves. I thought that was where the Spot-Light segments of the Celebrations was really great. Even the people that were doing really savvy stuff with their horses could use cool little tips from Pat to make it go even BETTER! Sending in our tapes can help but they aren't often enough. We COULD place video clips on Barnmice and then ask for supportive ideas from others. I wouldn't even say just from Parelli students cause I know Chris Irwin fans could add insight too and I'm sure many others would have ideas. Should start up some good discussions?! My guess is some would realize many of the differing horsemanship programs are really more alike then they knew. I like to share this kind of exchanges as long as no-one expects others to have the same final conclusion as they personally have. Different strokes for different folks! Personally I just want to see the welfare of the horse and safety of the human and the horse come first. Like Linda talks about her two horses feeling bad if she gets the other out to play and not them. One of the highlights to me at the Celebration was to see how she could get her horse (Remur or Allure?) to come out of his LB introverted place to such an enthusiastice partner both in play and riding with Lindas lesson with Walt. I was awe struck. Cash is a LBI also and he is not easy to get excited.
What Horsenality does your horse fall into? Cash can still too easily go into RBE if something really scares him. Fortunately I've never been on him in one of these panic attacks but having seen them from foot does help me stay afraid of the unexpected on a trail ride. But maybe that fear is still a good thing as it does keep us safe and our safety field does keep increasing.
What do you think and how are you progressing?
I should probably start signing "Chatty Kathy"!
I guess I'm searching for someone with 'like' ideas that wants to exchange experiences.

Judy, when you say you started the Parelli program... exactly where does one start? I joined the saavy club... but beyond that, I'm not sure where one would go next... what kinds of things have you done to better your relationship with your horse???? I'm in the club, maybe I can cheat off your paper, LOL....

You should enjoy yourselves. You will learn the games and how they can help you communicate with your horses and inprove the relationship. I can't compare with John Lyons as I don't know his methods. Relax and have fun.

A friend and I may be starting in a Parelli class this week. Just needed something different from trail riding. How will it be different from say John Lyons way of teaching??

After much consideration I started the Parelli program. As a long time rider and horse owner I am getting more from my relationship with my horse than I ever have before and I can see the future getting only better for horses when people realise that you must put the relationship first and only then will you really suceed with your horse.

Parelli Celebration Highlights Humane Society
of the United States Rescue Horses

This weekend at the Ft. Worth Celebration, Pat played with Thistle, a sweet-natured five-year-old mustang who was rescued during a large-scale neglect investigation in Nebraska earlier this year. Since the rescue, Thistle has been under the care of the Doris Day Horse Rescue and Adoption Center until he arrived in Ft. Worth on Thursday. Each day of the Celebration Pat played with Thistle, and by the end of the third day Pat was riding the mustang without reins leaving many saying this was the best training session they have seen Pat lead. It was truly amazing to watch, and the experience is first hand proof that the Parelli method can help any animal if you put the relationship first. Read more about the Parelli Humane Society of the United States partnership here. Following the event this weekend, Thistle was made available for adoption to a selected, loving home.

Hello. Don't freak out the minute I tell you this, as this is my first posting. I have a long history, but ours starts here..... as in this group. My animal communicator is very into Mr. Parelli's methods. I find that intriguing. I really liked how she communicated with my mustang when she was here on Friday. Anyway, we had a great session, mostly about a body scan she did on Oliver but before she left she recommended a carrot stick, which I have Clinton Andersons stick, and that I get the DVD Horsenalities... so I ordered it and I watched it last night and took notes and the whole bit. Where that goes is anyones guess. I have honestly watched RFDTV and made the aquaintance of every trainer there... I love them all... thank goodness they put themselves out there and what they think about horses and how we can best help them... i got alot out of my dvd experience, but just because I agreed. Honestly, I agree with all of them...... Mr. Parelli's teachings though do prey on your emotions. He is an emotional trainer... I even got a little teary eyed in the video, aw.... now it is interesting that as you get involved with every trainer you get compelled to buy the next dvd... and get on a program. When you get on the program, then you've culted yourself, lol..... anyway, here is who I am and what I say about diversification.

Pat Parelli motivates me to play with my RB Extrovert horse... he has other tendencies too and I can't wait to learn about them and the games.... Linda showed last night that my elder horse, Toby, he is more on the right brain side. but he's older and wonderful and barely has episodes. I just baby him... he's 28 and I make sure his poor little brain isn't over exposed. He seems to need comfort.. I am not sure about him. I am going to do the graph.

Clinton Anderson. Now Clinton was the first trainer I watched and I loved his whole attitude of how to stick up for myself..... One night when I was out with the handy stick, which is not that handy, my horse totally charged me and I broke the thing on him trying to turn him around, but I stood my ground.... punkass. He was like 2 and i got all brave and wanted to roundpen clinton anderson style and Oliver had a fit and turned into a punk.... but he ran around the arena all scared for about 15 minutes and he remembered the incident during a reading, so I guess I can thank Clinton that I stood my ground or my emotional side might be dead right now. but let me tell you something right here...... I watched every fricken trainer and not until I read a Chris Irwin book did my life truly get saved.... why did not one other trainer ever say, not even the one I'm standing next to, my personal trainer, "do not look at the horses head." I hope you read that if you have a pushy, rearing, striking or charging young horse.. OMG, I knew he was coming onto me but I didn't know why... I was getting charged..... thank you Chris....

I decided to roundpen him for respect and I watched Ponyboy videos and I love him too... man, I'd love to ride like an indian with no saddle and no bridle and brave on my war pony out alone in the woods, for sure..... and I hung out with my horse for 8 months now... in a herd like situation and we have totally bonded. He is following me around and with PB's and C.Irwins body language stuff, Oliver is even laying down around me know and it is super cool...

I started reading Mark Rashids four books all in a row and I couldn't put them down before I bought my first horses..... I loved them. I am really glad that I started there... they are very awesome in the passive leadership which has inspired me to do hypnotherapy and try calming techniques for my horse Toby, who is skitty with an unsure rider and scared of a sure one..... he's kinda trippy, but anyway, I love to show him that I can take care of him and he I truly can control.... he is the horse I learned to ride on... kinda trippy. :)

In between I've read clicker training books, centered riding, sally swift, yoga books.. etc....

I've read John Lyons Bringing up Baby and my personal trainer pretty much went through the book with my colt, so that was a comfort... I love John Lyons for instructional and book training. I did enjoy the Horsenality video for the same thing because Linda was wonderfully instructional and I love writing on the board and all that, and I'm doing my chart already.. again, an emotional motivation.... John Lyons brings out calm in me..... if I am stressed, I say, what would JL do..... does that make sense? I learned that and practice that stuff with my skitty horse... lowering the head, etc....

enter riding.... I don't care who the trainer is, I've seen most of em ride and my alltime horseman athlete and rider is Chris Cox.... I love how he is good to the horses mouth, makes the right thing easy and the wrong thing hard and he ain't afraid to do it.... and I've seen him get thrown from a horse too and take it like a man and show us all at the clinic how the rider can make mistakes and not read the horse right.... All the great trainers can ride..... but I want to ride like Chris... he doesn't teach domination like CA does, LOL.. he doesn't teach emotional side like PPdoes, he doesn't teach the horse following you like GPBoy does, or even the precise way to deal with the horse and his body language like I believe Mr. Irwin has helped me most..... thanks Chris... but as far as riding a horse, I love to learn from Chris Cox... my trainer rides like him too and I love the forward motion they get on the horse, the good backups, the spins that Oliver can do, the cantering, the light on the mouth...... yet bending and suppling and being such a good rider that you can discipline the horse by disengaging the hind end and then getting on with it... he teaches me how to work, not play and we need that too.. it can save our life.....

I am so glad my head is not in a hole of any one which way... my goodness, there is so much to learn from them all...

I can say when I watch Pat and Linda Parelli I do get emotional and I want to play with my horse Oliver like they suggest... he is very food oriented, very easy to get to do fun tricks with it, he and I have enough room to roam all over my ranch and jump things and go down the trails, but he is very very mischevious, naughty as linda would say and I think it's fun so I'm gonna go with playing with Oliver but I must have my handy stick. Now as far as items purchased from each trainer, I have books from PP, natural horsemanship, but I own Chris Cox's snaffle bit, C.A. lunge line and two rope halters and two lead ropes. That is all the stuff I have. and a aussie blocker tie ring, oh yeah, I love that thing for sure....

Every trainer I've had the pleasure of being able to see and watch has taught me something; something that is changing my personal experience. I am so grateful for the resources to learn from them all....

Hey people,
Just been on a Horse Accelerated Transformational course, which is partially based on Parelli. Had an amazing experience. Its all about learning to be true to yourself, how the horse mirrors you, and how to ask them to do something from your true self, to become your own and their leader. Incredibal stuff and I really reccomnd if you are interested in any of the following: leadership, personal developement, horsemanship, authenticity and/or improving the quality of your life and relationship with others to at least check out http://www.horsejoy.com

I only reccomend it as having just done I weekend, I have learnt so much about who I am, and my direction in life, and where to go next with my horses, and have had a truely incredibal experience, that will now continue for the rest on my life!!

Not reccomending for any personal benefits, just think you would be interested, as it does relate to parellie and natural horsemanship :D
