Hi Bella,
Try and get your mom to 1) put on the lightest saddle she has (even some English saddles are HEAVY), &/or 2) get the rider to scoot his/her seat as near to the pommel as possible until your back is stronger, &/or 3) have your mom tell this student to alternate between sitting down (close to the pommel) and two point, &/or get the rider to give you a looser rein so you can put your head down occasionally. I had a really weak back, and I'm in my 20's and my rider is not the lightest in the world, but by doing all this I am getting stronger and can carry my rider further back on my back now and I can move much easier.

Hey Bella,
try looking round at the student first, if she doesn't get it, don't let the student get on u. If not still, start giving little unexpected side kicks to convince the student to get off, or do it the mean way and gallop off! (Try avoid it though)! ;)

*sigh* My Mom makes me haul people and teach them how to ride. Yesterday the person was not small and barely fit on me, it was very hard for me to move. Why does she do that to me? I try to be nice for her most of the time because I really do like my Mom. Got any ideas how I can tell her I am really not pleased with this new student?

My mom's been away, so I've been rolling in the mud as much as possible and grinding it all in. Wait 'til she sees me when she gets home! Ha ha!!

Yesterday I had the complete day off. Just hung out in the paddock with my buddy Sam and picked at the new grass coming through. Mom visited briefly and took some photos of me. No doubt I look very handsome in my lovely green turnout blanket. I had to chase Sam away a couple of times because he was honing in on 'my woman' ;-). I could never have that! Mom could only spend a short time so I didn't get groomed, but I'm okay with that. Today she will take good care of me and we'll get to work (inside, regrettably ... it will definitely be too wet out today ...) and she'll spoil me rotten with carrots. I hope she remembers to stop at Pony Up to get me some Horsey Bits. I love those! Yummmm ...

I went on a beach outride yesterday. I was joined by 2 of my friends! We had fun galloping through the water. I'm going to an International showjumping competition tomorrow! My rider is going to get me ready soon. She groomed me just now, but I had an itch, so... I rolled in the mud. She was upset with me but I rubbed her and she laughed. My owner is cool. My one friend, Picadilly Prince, loves dressage, he even practices his moves in the paddock! But I must say, his Pirouette is looking quite good. My other friend, Shotgun, is an eventer, she is going to a 3 day event on Sunday. I'll try give the results as soon as I can!

I had a nice roll in the pasture today... it felt great, and I did a quite thorough job of coating myself fully in mud. Then when my human came to the barn she cleaned all of the mud off! Why do humans do that? Don't they know that mud makes a nice fly barrier?!
Ah well... we did have fun playing in the arena. Her training is going well and I think that I am going to start teaching her about being in the saddle next!

Bear, it sounds like you had a great day! Woo!

Well I was wrong yesterday ... we DID get to work outside afterall, although we did get rained on. My mom was very determined though, so I didn't mind it. Sometimes the rain on your face is a good feeling.

The canter transitions were better. It's her silly left hand that gets in the way all the time ... it just won't let go! She made an extra effort yesterday to be aware of this, so we ended up doing lots of simple lead changes across the diagonal. This way she could practice releasing a little with the left hand during the transition. It worked ... thank goodness!!

While working we were joined by a couple of lovely birds, don't know what they were, that swooped and swirled around us. They were being very playful and I really didn't mind their company at all. I think mom was concerned that their proximity might spook me, but she needn't have been worried. I do believe I have matured during the winter. I am almost nine years old after all ;-)

My owners mom has a 'foal' or ba.. what's it, oh, a baby! He treats me like a puppy dog. He calls me funny names and ruffles my ears. =( She's also got an older brother that hits and teases me. Any ideas on what 2 do?
