Thanks for the explanation about the names, Nocturnis. That's cool. I was named after my dad -- Shakespeare in Love. :-) Bear is a name my mom gave me because she has the idea I'm like a big, cuddly teddy bear. I like both my names ...

Yes, life is back to normal. My mother is coming to the barn earlier though. I guess she doesn't like the heat too much. I don't blame her, actually. I suspect when she drops by this morning that we won't be doing too much. Maybe some basic stuff at walk and trot and if the flies aren't too bad we'll head to the field for a short hack. No point in overdoing it in this weather.

What I'm really enjoying with this heat is getting a nice vetrolin rinse after. It makes me feel so refreshed and happy. I love the feeling of the luke warm water rushing over my body. And mom likes it that I'm clean and cool.

Then, when she's turned me out and is still standing at the gate gazing at me adoringly I wander over to the dirt spot and drop and roll (right over because I'm smart.) I don't think this thrills her but she's learned to accept it. Then I get up and wander back to the gate so she can feed me some long grass she's plucked from the beside the barn.

Life is good!

Nocturnis, ur new bro is cute!

Went 4 a ride with my old human yesterday and my new 1 2day! Yesterday I went 2 the beach with Flicka and 2day I went in Fynbos in Baardskeerdersbos up the mountain with the 2 new horses: Little Flickr (Dappled Grey Welsh Cob Mare) and Hunter (Light Bay thoroughbred x canadian gelding)! We galloped and jumped x-country! It was very fun!
Welcum back Bear!

Welcome back, Bear! It must be great that your mom is back. I am happy that my human has finally returned too. It was scary when she didn't come to the barn for awhile after I threw her... I was worried that she wasn't going to come back. When she did, I was afraid to go near her because I was afraid of hurting her again, but things are gradually getting back to normal. *whew!*

To answer your question, Canadian Horses are given their human names according to a specific convention, part of which is that their given name starts with a specific letter that is assigned to a given year. This year all Canadian Horse names begin with the letter 'X'. Xanthus (Xan) was named after a Greek mythological horse, and his name can also be related to the word for yellowish/red hair, which is fitting for a horse of his colour. Xidorn was named after a video game character because the breeder liked the sound of the name. :)

My person rides me dressage. Yesterday we practiced walk to canter transitions. When I got it right she said good boy and got off. I love when she does that.

Back from hiatus ... with mom away I had a much needed (and deserved) break from the day to day routine. Can't get into anything too much now as I sense she's coming over very soon to ride. Will catch up with you later.

Nocturnis ... Xan is very cute. Your half-brothers have very curious names. Do they have some kind of meaning?

Happy grazing, buddies!

Hi! Xan is doing well, he is growing very quickly. The humans say that he is going to be bigger than me! I now also have a new half brother (we have the same dad). His name is Xidorn:
