I had my riding instructor come yesterday and she rode most of the time to get Cash tuned up. I did get on and ride at a walk for just a few minutes yesterday. No pain!! I do still have to be very careful to not cause any more internal bleeding. The idea of riding without using the stirrups is recommended by many as a good way of developing a better seat and so is bareback recommended. I do like the feel of having my feet loose and my horse seems to like something about it. For some reason it just feels right?!
I returned to riding and having my own horse 5 years ago after about 33 years out out of the saddle, at the age of 53. So at 58 now I sure could be a grandma but my kids have not been so inclined. I was left with allot of fear issues cause my horse as a teenager was not a beginners horse and challenged me all the time. But this time I have had some great mentors and have learned how to handle situations in many circumstances. I have a good relationship with my horse and love quiet time with him too. We do the beginning games that Parelli teaches and I want to get back to advancing with that. We have gotten to the point that Cash will circle me at the walk, trot and canter change gates & reverse to do the same with no lead-line ...he's free but usually will stay with me. Now and then he decides he doesn't want to play and meanders off or starts going really fast. As far as he's concerned the really fast is still playing. I bought Cash when he was barely 3 and our biggest challenge besides the fear is desensitizing him for trail riding which is my main long term goal.
There is no question that riding and all the other things I do with my horse have contributed to my better health. I feel better and my blood lab work is much better then before returning to horses.
Now I hope to find ways to give back to horses ...Save the wild mustangs, stop horse slaughter as it is being done today, and horse massage or something similar.
Keep on Horsen around!

YOu go girl!! Having fun with horses is the best!!!
I haven't been able to ride for three weeks due to a fall off of mine
when I was riding with my feet out of the stirrups and my horse spooked
a big slide and swoop. So I suspect at my age I'm not going to start the bareback stuff
but who knows what the future will bring! There are often times that I wish I could just hop on for a few minutes. Do you have the B52 bombers(huge horse flies)? They came out a few days ago here and are in full force.
