Those of you who are developing your own reining horse, check out IPHDA.com. It was started by a former NRHA judge, Rod Miller.
The shows are online... Tape your ride, submit the video, wait for the judging to come back.
The judges are top notch. Tim McQuay, Clint Haverty, Lindsay Grice, Warwick Schiller, Jim Hutchinson to name a few.
The training process is broke down into levels (kinda like dressage). Level 1 is walk-trot, Level 8 is slides, turnarounds, 4 flying changes on a straight line.

It gives me an opportunity to show the horses I'm training, while they are still in training. It also lets me gain experience showing (take as many vids as you want, pick the best one). I don't have to pay heavy entry fees, just to get to the show and make a critical error. No trailering, no spending the whole day sitting around waiting for your go... etc, etc.

Holly, you should try it. I have never reined until this year. It's very challenging but rewarding. Plus there are various levels to compete at which helps.

I'm not a reiner but I really want to start reining with my appy gelding.

Wow, congratulations!! that's awesome.... It's just cooling off here to an acceptable temperature here in Souther California, USA. so I'm able to enjoy my horse more too... take care!!

We just finished our final show of the year here in Ontario, Canada! Despite the cold there was a great turnout...we have made many new friends this past year and have really enjoyed watching our horses succeed in the show pen.
