Just a couple of short little love notes.
The horse speaks directly into our soul, instantly bypassing, beyond the everyday suffering and pain of human endurance, and migrate directly into our beating hearts . Love roberta marie edstrom

Hello everyone!
It is a pleasure to be a part of the Barn Mice forum. This summer, I am pleased to announce that I have been chosen as the 'featured artist' at this year's 40th annual Menlo
Charity Horse Show in Atherton, CA.
These past few I have been
very busy preparing for the show at the Menlo Circus Club which will
feature my newest equestrian collection of collage artwork. The show
begins in the second week of August and runs for a week filled with… Continue

Last Sunday morning, I waited in the car, while my business partner went into a local bakery in downtown Tempe, AZ to buy some piping-hot, super fresh, right out-of-the over, cross-top buns to take to Easter dinner Needless to say the lines were long and it took him awhile.
I had brought a book to read about expanding my spiritual awareness, called "The Force". I was deep into reading my book, deep into feeling more spiritual and ready to take on every new challenge that came my…

Operation: Noah’s Ark
His real name is Montenapoleone – named after the most expensive and elegant district of Milan, Italy - the most important street in fashion. When we met, he was called Pepper. A 15.2 hand grey Thoroughbred gelding, he was born on the Haras Santa Maria de Araras in Ocala, FL. His pedigree is one of greatness – his dam by Alydar, and great grand-sire, Seattle Slew. He won almost $200,000 in 4 years of racing –ending up in New England. Skinny under a winter…

With all the things we hear and read about cutting our carbs we automatically assume that these things apply to our horses too. When in fact, carbohydrates are a fundamental part of any horse's diet and therefore cannot be cut out of their ration. Carbs should make up anywhere from 55 to 75% of a horse's diet. So this means that we really need to understand the way carbs are broken-down and metabolism when making our horse’s ration.
Firstly, carbohydrate (CHO) is a chemical…

The concept of a balanced ration in equine nutrition is similar to humans eating the daily portion of the four food groups.
The first step is to balance water intake. Here the balance is very much like money, you cannot have too much. Water is the most important nutrient in your horse’s diet and needs to be closely monitored.
The second nutrient to balance is long stemmed-fibre. However, much needed research is necessary to substantiate what long stemmed-fibre implies in…

What It Takes To Be A Jockey
By Frank Lovato Jr.
(Aug. 2008)
For many youngsters who feel the need for speed via horseback, the idea of becoming a thoroughbred jockey seems the perfect solution. I get so many kids each year that come to me looking for some sort of advice and direction into this career of being a…

This week I’ve set up a complete list of everything you need to take with you to the competition. I know it looks a little overwhelming, but you’ll find most of it can be kept in your trailer for the season.
Needing only to pack and unpack the perishables before and after your trip.
I keep this printed and on a clip board in my trailer for quick reference. If I run out of something at the show I put it on my clip board to replace when I get home.
This way, getting ready to travel…

Provide free access to clean fresh water at all times” is the advice given by most horse management or equine nutrition books. The simplicity and brevity of this statement fails to reveal the complexity and importance of water in equine nutrition. Water is the most important nutrient and it is too often overlooked in a horse’s diet. Deprived of all nutrients except for water, horses can survive for 20 to 25 days. Deprived of water but not feed, horses will only survive 5 to 6 days at best. More…

So I just came back home from the Burghley Horse Trials, I didn't have much time to blog while I was there...I was too busy posting the videos. I figured it would be more interesting to see the incredible performances than to read my chitchat.
Ok, so I was there because my company sponsors Phillip Dutton, Buck Davidson and Karen O'Connor, and they were all selected to be part of the US team competing at Burghley.
Upon my arrival, the first thing that really struck me is how beautiful…

The Week of September 7th through 13th
September 7, 1970: Jockey Willie Shoemaker earned his 6,033rd win, breaking Johnny Longden’s previous record number of 6,032 race wins. Shoemaker would go on to win 8,833 races in his lifetime, 11 of them Triple Crown races, and some of his mounts included the legendary Thoroughbreds John Henry, Forego, Northern Dancer and Spectacular Bid. Although Shoemaker suffered many of the serious injuries that afflict jockeys, he always…

Did you know that there almost no better way to promote your business than get involved with blogs and the horse community. I just thought that I would put that fact out there. I love blogs and I love the horse business world. I believe that the horse industry has it own set of rules for marketing.
One of the things I adore the most, it the intimacy that is required between the horse owner and the store owner. If I want to have a life long friend and customer, I better not only know…
