It all started with Mexican farmers, looking for a horse able to do farm work, bullfighting and look nice. So they bred their Andalusion Stallions to Quarter Horse and Criollo mares. From this combo they got a horse that not only looked nice, but performed beautifully. The Azteca possessed the grace and beauty of the Andalusion;and the heart and determination of the Quarter Horse. Averaging 14-16hh,the Azteca is truly a beautiful horse. A thick neck, sloping shoulders and large ears add to its beauty. Aztecas can be used for both Western and Dressage;with the Andalusion being Spain's cow horse and Spanish Dressage horse,it is versatile in both styles.

The Andalusion, a horse possessing much grace and beauty. Desired for its quiet temperament and easy handling, this is a magnificent horse. Used for bullfighting, the Andalusion is an agile horse. It dances with the bull with such grace and agility, enough to make any horse lover salivate. Natural collection and quick movements are just a few bonuses with this horse. You will mighty and noble upon it's regal back. It is this horse that contributes to the Azteca blood and heritage. No more than 3/4 Andalusion or Quarter Horse blood is allowed in first generation Aztecas.

The Quarter Horse. An easy going breed, used mainly for ranch work, such as moving cattle. These horses are willing to learn and eager to please its rider. A good Quarter Horse is friendly and gentle, willing to work long and hard. It has much stamina and even more heart. These traits are passed onto to the Azteca.

In conclusion, the Azteca is a beautiful horse, exuding grace and power. Underneath all that beauty is a big heart, stamina and an eagerness to learn and work. Owners of this breed should be proud and honored to ride such a steed.
