Frank Hayes, born 1883 died 1923 due to a heart attack he had on June fourth.  He rode a lovely mare named Sweet Kiss(later renamed)  in a race in Belmont Park in New York. Sweet Kiss's owners didn't expect her to win any races in her lifetime, but Frank convinced them to let him try her out.  Not only did the name win, but Frank set history.  Half way through the race, Frank died.  He suffered a heart attack, but remained upright.  Because Sweet Kiss crossed the finish line, and Frank remained upright, the mare was awarded the victory.  A service was held later on for Frank, who was buried in his silks.  After that Sweet Kiss was renamed Sweet Kiss of Death and no jockey dared to ride her.  Frank is the only jockey to have won a race while dead.. Let us hope nobody else tries this.

It is assumed that Frank suffered a heart attack because he had to meet weight requirements.  I  a short period of time he went from 142 pounds to 130. Frank wasn't a certified jockey, but a horse trainer and stable manager.  The steeplechase race was his first and last race he ever did.  He was only 35 years old when he died.

Although he died, Frank showed that all horses and people deserve a chance. If we didn't try out all the Thoroughbreds because they didn't appear like they would do well then we would've passed up many champions today.  If we didn't try people out at based on the fact that they don't appear to have what it takes then we would've passed up many great people or even been unprepared for many terrible people.
