Hey bloggers,

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend and staying warm during this cold fall weather. This week the Baker's blog is going to specify in bandaging- proper bandaging technique, the importance of bandaging and proper bandaging products. Being a competitive rider it is very important to know how to properly protect and treat your horses legs after competition to prevent any injuries from occurring.

Firstly, proper bandaging must be done primarily to make sure the tendon is being pulled the right way and to increase blood flow. You don't want to bandage you horses too tight or too loose but it should be snug and secure. To explain how proper bandaging works here is a video as well as a couple diagrams showing proper bandaging technique.

Second, it is important to bandage your horse for the following reasons:

- Provide support for tendons and ligaments during strenuous workouts

- Prevent or reduces swelling (edema, which is an excess of watery fluid collecting in the cavities or tissues of the body) after exercise, injury or during stall rest
- Protect legs from concussion and impact
- Shield leg wounds from contamination and aid in healing

Lastly, at Baker's we carry a selection of bandaging products such vet wrap, poultice, quilted cottons, no-bow bandages, and a wide selection of coloured bandage wraps. If you have anymore questions pertaining to bandages or bandaging products our Baker's staff will be happy to answer them upon your next visit :)
