Debbie McDonald is an American Dressage  rider who has competed in the Olympics and many other National competitions. Debbie originally started out competing in show jumping, but switched to Dressage after an accident with her horse, when he fell on her, breaking her ribs, rupturing her spleen and fracturing her vertebrae. She met Parry and Peggy Thomas in Las Vegas at a Dressage meet where she met their horses, who didn't have a rider at the time. In 1994 the Thomas became owners of Brentina , a chestnut Hanoverian mare who became Debbie's primary mount. Together Debbie and Brentina won the Olympic gold medal for individual and team riding in 1999 Pan American Games and was also named equestrian of the year. In 2003 she was the first American rider to win the Dressage World Cup.
