I had a very nasty experience lately with an established tack store. Took in a nearly new expensive blanket to sell on consignment and dropped in a few weeks later to be told the blanket was NOT what I said it was and was sold for $40. The owner came close to accusing me of lying. I was so stunned, I left, but not before he volunteered to get it back and call me. What a surprise; I have heard nothing. This is a place I have patronized for 20 odd years. What is the matter with people in the horse business when they treat regular customers in such a shoddy fashion? Can they really afford to be so cavalier and unmindful of the fact that once insulted, people never set foot in their store again?

...Most importantly ,you MUST be perfectly clear as to the agreement...what is the product? what is the AGREED selling price? None of this is to be taken lightly..I have been selling for family and friends for about 10 years...and keep very good records especially on prices...I totally agree with Cyndi,he should have examined the article BEFORE you left it with him,or like she says he should have contacted you before selling it...I am setting up my own business doing just this type of selling and the legalities are endless...and you are right to be upset,I would be...did you have a contract???How does he expect to get the item back??Consignment is a duo decision it has to work for both parties involved...the owner of the shop obviously doesn't value your business and' word of mouth' can do so much harm to a business

That would frost me too!! If you asked a certain price, then the store owner should have contacted you before selling it for less. Or if he "examined" it after you left, he should have contacted you to discuss the price. At least then you would've had the option to remove it from his store. Grrrr...

They should have discussed the price with you not decided what it was to be sold for... I thought consignment was like a duo decision...

Hi Barbara, I often wonder that as well. Why on earth would anyone close the door on a customer? How would you misrepresent a blanket anyway? I mean, couldn't the tack shop owner see with his own eyes what it was when you brought it in? How frustrating!!
