Just for something fun, I want to know what your favorite horse moments are. They can be while your on the horse or just while your grooming it. Anything you want! Enlighten me. :-)

My favourite moments with the horses are when they are at their most sublime, lay down and trusting me as one of their own.
This is a video of my, then 2 year old, snoozing away while I sat in his pile of hay:

PURE BLISS!
My favourite horse moment is when I'm grooming my horse and brushing her face and she stretches out and lips my jacket. Its cute, until she finds what she was looking for. Zipper. Then she grabs it with her teeth and unzips the jacket until she cant reach. Then i zip it up again, and she starts again.
I was almost a victim of this "unzippering act"
BTW: thanks for warning me!
I have two that stuck out
This happened today: I was out in the field giving chest scratches to Ally ( clyde mare rescue ) and all of a sudden she started grooming me and playing with my hair, it felt good so I just chuckled to myself. A few moments later Ally grabbed my baseball cap in her front teath, nickered and trotted off head held high towards the herd and showed off her "prize."

I then spent the next 30 minutes "playing" "retrieve the hat" with Ally.

second one: This happened 4 years ago.
I had finished my ride and dumped my helmet by my horses stall next to cassia ( OTTB ) who was in the crossties. I then went to grab my pop from the fridge. I walked back into the isleway to see cassia taking a poop in my helmet.
FML.
I bought a new helmet and learnt my lesson.
After I was mad..it was pretty darn funny!
I have had a lot of good horse moments but this is my oldest memory, basically what sealed the deal for me as far as having a horse in my life at all times.

When I was young, no older than 8 I started taking lessons. I never rode ponies like a lof of people did when they were little. I was always on horses. My trainer decided to put me in a lead line class for our biggest local show on my lesson horse, Blackie. Well as some of you may know, everyone wins in the lead line class (I know this now but had no idea at the time). And the judges presented it like we were all so darn good that they just could not pick a winner and so we all tied. I got a blue ribbon and this really nice little pottery trophy. I treasured that thing throughout my years of growing up. I was so proud. My mom still has a picture of me somewhere sitting on Blackie in my tiny little show clothes holding my prize. That was it. I was hooked.
OMG, I am so new to all this horsey stuff and I have a mustang. While I did foster him and then adopt him and I've had him for 4 years since he was 8 weeks, I've had to really calm myself down and not act like a spaz and be calm around my Oliver..... this morning I cut him a watermelon....... I was close enough for him to blow in my ear..... and I reveled in it instead of spazzing out and shooshing him away..... then his leg got stuck in his bucket that was hanging because he wanted more..... and I loved that I could go up to him and help him free his leg without him spazzing out..... that probably sounds so dumb but I'm practicing my energy level and how I affect him..... so for us to be growing in our trust is just it for me.... :) we do tons of stuff together, but his being close to me without coming on top of me, even in the presence of food is helping me trust him more. :)
My other horse is an older gelding..... he leads me to believe that he was passed around alot in his years... he's not very affectionate, but much better than when I first got him.... one time I came home and he was lame..... it was starting to rain..... for two hours I helped him move three legs, then I picked up the hurt leg and moved it for him till I got him in a stall, out of the rain, with food and water within his reach. The next morning he was in the middle of the stall, he'd been able to move about 6 feet. I went in to see him and check on him and he actually gave me a head hug..... I've only had one or two from him in five years but I know that he was thanking me for helping him....
Mr. irwin, I have another horse moment.. I think it has something to do with what you taught me, but my mustang is laying down near me when I am around him so I can crawl on him.. thank you
!! yesterday he tried to get my attention by laying out flat in the sun then scooting his nose over to me.... OMG.. Thanks to GPBoy too... both of these trainers have given me my Oliver. :)
I think my favorite horse moment ever must be last fall, when my Quarter Horse mare , Maggie was delivered. This was after 30+ years of owning various horses and breeding some foals, too, one an Arab stallion who went on to win championships. She stepped off the trailer, her long black mane in braids and bay coat gleaming, and she had a red sheet on and just looked gorgeous. She was 8 yrs at the time, and looked like she was home at last, and I knew I found my forever horse.
learn something new every day... firstly my friend just got her mare last fall and secondly that Maggy sounds like a bay?????
Yes, Jen, I got Maggie on November 1st of '08!! And yes, she is a bay! It does feel like I have owned her forever, we are very simpatico. We did our share of trail rides, the trail by my house, and my very favorite riding place, Meadowbrook Ranch, with hills and forests and streams, lakes, deer, otters, eagles, blue heron, coyote, and there are bear there, but we haven't run into one, but my best riding buddy has. So, now that her colt is in his new home, can't wait to have more fun riding.
yay for bay!! :) It will be nice to hear of your adventures with Marti and Maggy... someday my horse and I will get off my hill and out of my back yard..... he's probably very bored of me.
