I'm just wondering what interesting non-horsey books people are reading in their "spare" time. I'm working my way through "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle, for the second time. I love this book and highly recommend it. What are you reading, or have you read, that you'd recommend?

Yes, they were most enjoyable but you don't want to do anything else. I had to drag myself away to ride and that is not like me at all :)
I agree! I took a vacation having just started the first book and read the last 3 (650 pgs each) in one week! It felt like I was escaping into my own little personal story every time I opened the book. When I was done, I was actually sad for a bit. I can't wait for the other 2 movies!!!
I have just finished "In the Time of Butterflies" by Julia Alverez. It is fictional but about the three Mirabel sisters in Dominican Republic who were murderd by country's leader. Interesting read particularly if one is Latino.
I just finished reading "Posed for Murder" by new mystery novelist Meredith Cole.

I'm also reading, bit by bit, "Tell Them I Didn't Cry" a memoir of covering the Iraq war by Washington Post reporter Jackie Spinner.
I'm on book five of the 'Ringing Cedars' series about Anastasia and her amazing information about spirituality. I think it is going to be hard to read other books after these ones. Very amazing, and exciting to hear about the changes people all over the world are making in their lives because of these books.
I've never heard of these books ... what are they about?
Ooh, Eckhardt Tolle - I have read some of The Power of Now which is pretty insightful stuff. I am also addicted to Jasper Fforde's amazing fiction about the world of fiction, some highly surreal but engaging literary adventures! My other favourite author is Christopher Brookmyre who writes devilishly clever and gruesome (but amusing) crime novels.
I just started reading Twilight today and am already beginning to regret it, not because it's bad but because I have a midterm Tuesday and so must make myself study instead of read.
Regrettably the only thing I have time to read right now is all the receipts I've gathered to do my income tax. Once this malarchy is behind me (in the next couple of days, I hope) I can concentrate on my new book ... the name of which escapes me right at this moment ...
I'm just about finished The General's Daughter by Nelson DeMille. Trying to read Another Woman by Penny Vincenzi - hard time focussing on the story when you drop off to sleep or nap after 2-3 pages.

About to start Riding for Life: A Horsewoman's Guide to Lifetime Health and Fitness by Rallie McAllister MD. Won the last one at the AERC National Championship Endurance Ride as a raffle prize. Looks interesting and it is autographed as well. Not sure how much I will get out of it but if I glean one new thing, it's a good read.

I tend to read 2-3 books at a time. I think somewhere I am about 1/2 way through a biography on Sir Ian Fleming who wrote the James Bond books. Have to hunt that book down and finish it.

Too many books, too little time and now we are into RIDING SEASON!!!!!
The Shack was really good! Twilight series as well. Each book kept getting better and better!
Am starting to read a really interesting, very non-horsey book called "Rulers of the World: The power and greed of the grand acquisitors" by Philippe Gigantes. It's an historical examination of the powerful people who have shaped our world -- for good or bad. Quite eye-opening.
