This weekend the Upper Canada District Canadian Horse Breeders (UCD) held a dressage clinic with Grand Prix dressage rider Rebecca Schoenhardt. My boyfriend and I both rode in the clinic and we had a great time. Participants from a variety of riding disciplines were taught how to use dressage techniques to improve their riding skills and their mounts' way of going.

I was injured in a fall from a horse a few years ago, and I still had some confidence issues, and so I was a little nervous about riding in the clinic... especially on my friend's powerful horse which I had ridden only once before. Rebecca was able to instill confidence and encourage me to push myself further than I expected. Her ability as a coach, combined with me having an excellent mount, allowed me to make a lot of progress in just one session. My boyfriend is a novice rider, and he also enjoyed his ride and learned a lot from it. He said that some things that he was working on in his lessons finally "clicked" during the clinic. We stayed for the whole day and watched all of the other riders, and we gained even more knowledge from watching Rebecca coach the other participants.

The riders were well fed, with coffee and cookies waiting in the lounge when we arrived in the morning, and a great barbeque put on for us during the lunch break. The horses had stalls prepared for them so that they could relax before and after their sessions. We'd like to thank everyone at Hidden Meadow Farm for hosting a great clinic and making sure that everyone was well looked after and had fun.

Dressage riders, jumper riders, western riders and trail riders have attended this and other UCD dressage clinics. Whether you are a novice rider or an advanced competitor, and whatever your riding discipline, the UCD clinics have something for everyone. It was a supportive and friendly environment and we are looking forward to future events... and especially to the prospect of eventually bringing our young Canadian Horse to get some experience once he is under saddle.

I was so sorry to have missed the clinic and meeting other CH owners. Next time!
It would be great if you could make it to a future clinic. The Futurity and Show is a lot of fun too. It's always great to meet other Canadian Horse owners and admirers. :)
