Okay, for my last 5 page essay I am writing about how I believe in riding horses...and pretty much what it means to me and why it is important and what it means to just everyday people...

Hi Amy!

Riding allows me to leave the troubles of the world behind and enter another dimension of time and space with my beautiful horse. It is a unique moment that only my horse and I can share, and that releases stress and renews my spirit so that I can re-enter the world-at-large feeling stronger and happier. When I am blue, an hour on my horse, and the time spent with him either side of that hour, puts the colour back in my heart.

Hi
Riding to me is very calming. You can go into a state of just you and your horse and not notice, for the most part, anyone else in the school. It is exciting when teaching your horse something new, and he finally figures it out. Horses teach you patience, kindness, to be gentle and not to be selfish.
When practicing galloping (I like eventing) Having the feel of the horse, the wind in my face, Makes a person feel powerful. Getting deep into the schooling and training of a horse is like a religion,.
Hope this helps. Have a great rest of the day

Riding is transcendental. I get to share the horse's world for a brief period of time and I think my mare gets to share in mine. I laughed the first time my dressage coach told me to "think " trot and my horse would trot. But I have found that this is very true. If is rare that I have to actually physically give the aids for trot (because her attention is elsewhere at the moment). The same goes for all the other movements/gaits. I don't think that many riders get to this level in their riding though. This is the Centaur, when 2 minds become one.
Go anywhere in the world where there are natural, wholesome, contented, and realy nice people: and what do you always find? That the stables are the real centre of the household.
It gives me a chance to a) be at peace b) share a unique bond with another creature c) allow me to be "successful" as an athlete.

To further explain - when riding, I just focus on that - not the outside world, not concerns or worrys and I can often come to the "right" answer for a difficult decision all while on the back of a horse. I used to work in the business world but found it highly stressful. Now I work managing a horse farm (160 acres and ~40 horses) by myself - it is so peaceful, even the little everyday stresses, when compared to what I used to do. Even the cut in pay is well worth the peace of mind.

In forming unique bonds with another creature - you can become friends and family and even bosses with horses but once in a rare case you will have the special bond with a horse where you think alike - I've had it only twice in a lifetime, my mother only once.

As a child I was awkward, inept, uncoordinated at most sports (team and individual) however mounted (or driving) a horse I can excell to the point of making it look easy and fun. Whether it be mastering the halt on a greenie, the collected canter on a more experienced mount or attaining the ultimate the top award for your breed or discipline I can do it and so can you (given the right mount, the right skills and plenty of practice and will power)!

I'd die mentally if I didn't have the choice to ride or drive.
