I don't know about Ontario, Canada, but in Maryland, US. I recieved $8 an hour, but that was because I had family heritage and knew my stuff. They all knew I could ride as well. That was for a student, however. For a groom who did it for a living it would be from $8 - $12 in general but, making up to $16 wasn't unheard of. A student would generally get $6 or $7 an hour.

I recently moved to Kentucky and here it seems like if you don't have any ties then you start from $5 and $8 was earned by working for years. I wasn't looking into the higher rollers however, so that could be very scued. I don't know if that will help...

Wow - $5 an hour seems so low for a groom, when you think of the work and care that we put into these horses everyday!
As you said - it helps to have connections and a good work history - it is a small community and if you are good people will know about you.
