all those pony club coaches that would have the kids throw the reins at the horse in the take-off should be tied to a chair and made watch this. Just had two kids here the last couple of days that had it drummed into them to chuck the reins away at the jump, ponys were stopping and running out trying to avoid the smack in the mouth over the jump, as soon as the kids sat still the pony's started to jump.

It IS possible to give the horse more rein over the jump without letting go of the reins, jumping riders started doing it over a century ago.  Believe it or not it used to be REQUIRED in the equitation hunter medal classes for the kids to keep contact over jumps and to give their horse's enough rein over jumps to jump athletically 50 years ago (usually on OTTB's, not quiet horses.)  They kept contact over the jumps and moved their arms forward as much as the horse needed them to.  If teenagers could do it back then why can't adult riders do it now?

wow! Totally crazy! And, c'mon... obviously if you let go of the reins, your horse is going to run towards the other horse on the field lol I know my horse would anyways ;D

I agree with Jackie.  It almost seemed like the horse was gaited and JUMPING at the same time.  Still, a great video.

Very talented jumper there (the horse) considering that he jumped all of these without any head freedom over the fence.  Is this the new jumping fashion?  The horse was asking for more rein to jump before each fence.

After the down hill slide and first fence, he goes over the next fence and looks back as if to say" Wow, I can't believe we cleared that."
