What's the best way to clean a bit? Can I just throw it in the dishwasher?

I wouldn't recommend putting it in the dishwasher. I would just handwash it.
Yeah Id Jst Handwash It With Water!
I use diamond bit paste to clean my bits, or I throw it in the dishwasher!...
I NEVER thought of the dishwasher. I dunk mine in the water bucket & wipe with a towel every time I use it. I am not overly awesome for doing this, she just foams alot, and it dries into nasty, crusty, horribly-hard-to-remove grime, so i dunk & wipe.
Why would dishwasher be bad? Chemicles? Mine are stainless steel..
I've never had any problems putting my bits in the dishwasher, I also put my stirrups and spurs (minus the straps!) in there too...If it works on, and is safe for, what I eat my food off, I can't see why it should cause an issue to something I put in my horses mouth!
Good point ! errr I meant my BITS are stainless...not the chemicle !!! "smacks bad typing hand"
The dishwasher works well for really grimy bits, but I clean mine every day with a damp sponge and a towel, so I don't get to those extremes. Given that we regularly eat off or out of what comes out of the dishwasher I can't imagine it would cause our horses problems.

Dishwashers are really great at cleaning grungy baseball caps - they clean out all the sweat and dirt without deforming the cap or the bill. Place them upright in the top rack and run them through a cycle with your usual detergent, and complete the air-drying process when you take them out.
