Hurricane Ike hits Habitat for Horses

Posted on September 24, 2008 at 12:45pm 1 Comment

During this emergency the efforts of our volunteers have made a powerful impact on the livestock community of Galveston County. While the west end of Galveston Island is on the uphill side of the recovery, Bolivar is just now becoming accessible. The destruction on Bolivar was almost 100%, and the loss of livestock quite heavy. The reports say that only 150 head of cattle and 2 horses are left standing, although we have reports of two mules and… Continue

Naysa goes Home!

Posted on May 29, 2008 at 2:45pm 0 Comments

From out of nowhere came another lady, this one all the way from Florida, who spent all weekend in the pasture with her, no petting, just talking, and who started working on the human trust issues. Jolee turned in her adoption application after that first weekend and flew in almost every weekend after that, slowly gaining Naysa's shattered trust. Before long we started seeing pictures of Jolee sitting in the pasture, Naysa inches away, listening, or Jolee and Naysa sleeping together in the… Continue

The Louisiana Mare- Naysa

Posted on May 29, 2008 at 10:11am 3 Comments

Habitat for Horses received the call from Louisiana on Thursday, June 7 2007 about an injured mare in desperate need of special care. She had been dragged behind a trailer and badly hurt.As the trip started Saturday further details came trickling in. When found the mare was wearing a halter wrapped in barbed wire. She also had a hole than ran straight through her nose all the way through her sinus cavity presumably from impact with the trailer and of course her hooves had been worn down by the… Continue

Hi Emily, I have added a discussion on the home page on the latest anti horse slaughter developments in the U.S. and hope you can provide some background on what is currently going on. Thanks.

Hi Emily,
How are you? I hope your summer has been going great! Someone has added a blog post about rescue horses and I thought this might be a great opportunity for Habitat to add some stories/replies on our home page, so here I am passing the info along! I think the blog title is "Tell us about your rescue horses".

By the way I have rescued a few horses in my day. I'm sure you have many great stories about the rehabilitation of a few special horses.

Your pictures are so sad! I don't know how anyone could do that to a horse, or any other animal for that matter!

Hi Emily,
I tried to go to the petition site, but it said the page could not be found. Is it possible that the address is incorrect?

Hi Emily,

I came across your blog in my browsing..,what a terrific organization. Perhaps I'll have the opportunity to help out in some way if any book events bring me down to the southern US...

Best,
Tish Cohen

Hi Emily,

Great org and a needy cause. I have been involved with dog rescue for many years, specifically Canadian Dachshund Rescue, so I know how important these organizations are in helping animals find their new "forever home". Our motto is "until there are none, rescue one." Keep up the good work! Sue N.
