It’s graduation season, and change is everywhere. Do you remember the first time you graduated to jumping your horse? Hopefully the first jump you faced was a small crossrail and was done intentionally, but some riders have other stories.
Whether you knew it or not, your graduation to jumping was a big step in your riding. Providing your first jump was performed on purpose and…

Have you ever watched a good drill team in action? When watching a drill team perform an energetic, entrancing drill the fact that the horse and rider pairs are individuals falls away until you start to see the team as a single unit. Mounted drill teams are fun and a great opportunity to socialize with friends, but they have many other benefits, too. If you’ve been considering joining a drill team, here are some of the benefits that you’ll gain through the experience. You just might want to…

I could not give her an answer, I guess I better start researching gnats someday. Debbie even tried the spot…

It’s a Grandfather Spring. Those words don’t go together well, any more than watching elderly horses in the freshness of the season. I wouldn’t trade a moment. My Grandfather Horse survived the winter to see another birthday. After our emergency vet call in…

This is for you, Mom, for all that you do for your horse-loving daughter. This is to say thank you for how you never told your daughter she’d “grow out of it” when she came to you at six years old with wide eyes and dreams of a pony of her own. Thank you for always slowing the car down when you passed horse farms so that she could press herself up against the window to catch a glimpse of the glossy-bodied equines and the brilliant white fencing and that beautiful, entrancing…

It’s that time again. I fill a cart the dollar store and a glimpse in the rear view mirror while driving away looks like a clown exploded in the extended cab of my truck. Then the wading pool comes out of the rafters and I dust off the bubble makers. Cones, barrels, and hula-hoops make their way to the pasture, and I hang my favorite sign: Snakes in the…
