Intro

Hey everyone! I would like to start my blog off with a bit about myself. I am not perfect, but these are MY beliefs and the way I do things. OK, lets start out with the basics. . . I am 13, and so is my best friend, Kate. Kate is a 15.2 hand sorrel Quarter Horse. Kate was a broodmare until she was 10, then she was sold and trained. However, when i got her, we were told she had been a ranch horse all her life. I guess I should have noticed. Anyway, we have been together a year, and have…

Cole Poses Pretty

This is Cole parking out like a Morgan. He taught himself how to do this--I just encouraged him with clicking. He learned it in his stall, and he only recently started doing it outside. I have to wonder if the desire to park out is genetic. If he was a Quarter Horse, would he have done this?…

Zoe's first day of training.

Zoe is a 5 year old registered quarter horse. I am training her for my best friend.
Another beautiful day. I got to the barn a little before 2pm. Zoe was in her stall and fairly talkative. I put on her rope halter. She didn't lower her head but she didn't raise it or pull it away either. (She will eventually put her head down for haltering and for the bridle.) I borrowed a hoof pick and started picking her hooves. I started…

Her other victories include winning the KRHA Sunflower Slide Futurity Open in 2005, an Open finalist at the NRHA Futurity, named the National Reining Horse Association’s Youth of the Year in 2008 and Palomino Horse Breeders Association Youth World Champion for the last four years. Dressage saddle, wow!

I have a small Quarter Horse, a passive-aggressive mare that had been badly abused and was starved half to death when I got her seven months ago. From the beginning, she has disliked every Western saddle I have tried on her and is none too fond of my Jeffries Falcon Hawk either, even though it fit her fairly well. I have been tearing my hair out trying to figure out what to put on her back.… Continue

Lessons From Sam by Robert Pruitt

He had been sold a few times before. An old Quarter Horse named Sam. He was respectful but knew who he was and wasn't impressed with anyone, anymore. I could put a halter on him; tie the lead rope in a circle and any small child could control him like he had the best custom bridle and reins. Sam would never take one false step with a child on his back, or a quick step or any step that might frighten a child. Twenty years old, Sam was a big stocky and still powerful old style… Continue

Welcome William!

Check out the photographs of my new pony, William. He is a 15.2 hand Dry Doc bred quarter horse gelding, five years old. I've had him for a month now and we are really getting to know one another. He is very quiet, willing and forgiving. Nothing much bothers this boy! Thanks so much to Patrick Mulligan who raised and trained William and took the time to ride with me and teach me some of his buttons. I'm so glad Willy failed at roping!

I've had William for 3 months now and I just love… Continue

Stormy's Journey

I have a two year-old AQH filly named Ms. Stormy Dry Doc. I brought her hom in May of 2008. She was not halter broke when I got her, therefore we had a long way to go. I didn't think I would ever get any where with her, because for the first week she wouldn't even eat, much less let me catch her. Finally, I changed her feed to a mix of sweet feed mixed with my usualy pelletized performance horse feed. She liked that matter, I'm guessing because of the molasses. Gradually she began to let me…
