Dear Drama Queen-

Wild Horse Inmate Program

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is a government organization responsible for numerous things, one of them being to solve problems for the thousands of wild mustangs that roam American land. One of their sponsored programs, the Wild Horse Inmate Program, involves the rehabilitation of inmates using wild horses. The program carefully selects convicted inmates and allows them to train horses as part of their rehabilitation. Once the horses are able to execute a walk, trot and lope under… Continue

Taking the Blame.

It’s generally considered good manners in the barn to graciously take the blame anytime your horse is less than spectacular, and give your horse all the credit after a good ride. But it is more than manners, it is also a rider’s responsibility.…

Stolen & Slaughtered Horses

I came across this on The Enchanted Forest. My heart broke when I read David's letter. I would put up quite a battle if someone told me they were taking Stormy from me, which is bad enough, but to send these innocent horses to slaughter is unconscionable. Please share David's letter with everyone who loves horses, so we can stop any… Continue

Follow Your Passion

I came out of the womb with an innate love for animals - all animals. As a small child vacationing in Florida, my folks took me to a dolphin show. We went each night. The owner felt sorry for my folks and stopped charging admittance. It is…

Our Teachers Are Everywhere!

While your pets have come into your lives to learn from you, they’ve also come to teach. After communicating with hundreds of animals over the years, I’m still amazed at how often we miss their teachings.

Lessons range from showing us how to play again to teaching us about illness within ourselves from storing unresolved, negative emotions. The roles our pets play in our lives is directly proportional to our needs.

These selfless teachers appear when the student is ready.… Continue

Different Philosophies?

The other day on a blog, http://theridinginstructor.net, I wrote a post about boarding contracts. It was triggered by a recent situation where my daughter took over care at a small boarding stable here, when the owners went out of town. A horse went head to tail down (seizure) and remained that way for at least 8 1/2 to 9 hours. The horse owners refused to get a vet for the horse. The stable owner had no board contract, and the vets will not touch a… Continue

Questions and answers about riding to music and freestyles!

Here is a question I get all the time about the riding your freestyle at home vs. riding your freestyle at a show. I thought you might all enjoy it! Ruth

Question:

I have ridden my freestyle a number of times in competition. I have ridden it time and time again perfectly at home and know my music very well.

This is my question. I ride my test perfectly at home but when I get to a venue... I am ALWAYS ahead of the music!!! It's not a big problem because I know… Continue

Toward An Equine Bill of Rights

A gentleman from LinkedIn posed a question about a pets' bill of rights that got me thinking about the point of having such a thing for horses and its possible uses and abuses.

For a little research, I Googled pets' bill of rights and found a few inane lists by pet care companies ("we have the right to snuggle daily") that included rights obvious to any animal lover but really didn't, um, fit the bill.

I did find something on… Continue
