Creating Attentive Partnerships

Previously I was talking about horsemanship, trust and connection, which led me to ask the question about what you would like your partner to be like. Now the reason I asked this was, and this is going to sound a bit out of place, but a horse wants to be treated like a woman wants to be treated.…

Adjusting Your Leadership to Keep Attention

If you can keep adjusting your leadership to be more dependable, flexible, understanding and intelligent, the horse is more willing to form a loyal partnership and put a greater effort into his performance. The biggest mistake people make in their relationship and communication with horses is to not understand that the development of leadership with horses should be spent in managing the connection, bond and trust through…

Equitable Partnerships through Leadership

If you lead your horse in the moment and he feels a companionship connection, it inspires him to follow your lead like music inspires a dancer to dance. I have focused my life on figuring out how to get a horse to accept my friendship and for it to be as strong as the friendship he shares with other horses. From studying herd behavior, I have gained this connection by getting a horse to accept me as a family member and trusted…

Leadership with Horses is not about Self-Serving

My first lesson on leadership was when I was a little girl and was taught to me by a lizard.

In the olden days, the milk cartons had little tabs that you pulled up and made a little tiny hole in the corner of, so that when you turned it over, it would pour. It kind of made a…

Bomb Proofing Horses… or Not

I have never spent much time bomb proofing horses because with the Waterhole Rituals™ I provide a horse a feeling of safety in my charge and they follow my lead without question because of the relationship I have establish with them. Before you consider bomb proofing a horse, I would advise you to…

Difference Between Respect and Dominance with your Horse

In this article you will find a question from Dee in California about the difference between respect and dominance with your horse.

Dee writes:

To me, as a new horse owner, there is a fine line between gaining respect and being dominant. I really don’t understand the difference.…

Telepathy with your Horse

Today I want to add to the story about Panadero and his Spanish Walk. The last time I had worked with him his Spanish Walk had been very green and he could…

Art of Energetic Connection

I find that a very important connection I have with horses comes from the subtleties and energy that we share back and forth. For example, how I choose to connect each time I have been away from my horse. I might choose to be focused on him…

Deepening the Connection – Part Two

We must spend more time walking in the shoes of our horses to realize how we can bring a better quality of life to our equine friend. Through the process of finding a better quality of life for our horses can we find a higher consciousness and a better quality of life for ourselves.

I want people to love horses because of their spirit, depth of character and the magnetic connection we share with them rather than the service we expect from them. What stands in the way of…

More on Stallions and Connection

Right, we were talking about stallions and that they can be difficult to handle, especially if they feel you don’t respect them or you try to lower their position. Instead of fighting with a stallion to gain control after the bond and respect have been established it is best to put them to a task that brings connection like the Uberstreichen exercises or ask for something you know would bring back his focus, which in turn will bring connection. Sometimes all that is necessary is… Continue

Fast is Not Better: Is there Only One Right Way to Train a Horse?

We need to change the concept that there is only one right way to approach a horse and that the “right way” has already been discovered, and that the horse and human must cater to it, and that the best method is the fastest method. Fast is not better. Relationship is about time spent in connection. We need to recognize that better horsemanship is achieved through being continually educated by the horse; by adjusting our leadership to create a true working bond.

By…

Building That Vital Connection with Your Horse, part 2

In my previous blog post, we looked at how the interactions wild horses use within a herd to maintain harmony and unity can also be used by us humans to help develop a horse’s character in the same way.

Now let’s look at the different personality types within the society of wild horses and how that applies to our relationship with horses and what we can learn.

In nature, the spectrum of the equine personality goes from “submissive” to “dominant” but at the top…
