Hi there,

I hope this got your attention because I sure do need your help!

I live in Houston, Texas, and if you know Houston, Texas - Houston has nasty winters sometimes that snow, and rain, and are humid, and gross and FREEZING all at the same time!! So I was wondering.. Does anyone know of any kind of Winter Boot that I can ride in? One that is snug and cozy and hopefully looks good too. I love my regular "Tall Boots" (that's what I dubbed them, they are black pleather zip ups that go to my knee), but they just aren't warm because I have to wear them with paper thin socks, and those aren't warm either.

I ride my horse, Mirabella, who is very energetic and I never have to use my feet to kick her, just touch her side and move my reins forward so not having official riding boots won't really bother her.

But on the other hand, I ride a lesson horse named Irish who is rather pokey and sometimes have to be ridden with spurs.. So attaching spurs to Uggs might not work..

But give me your opinions and advice! If you think Uggs are nice to ride in, tell me why and I just might :D

Thank you so much, and happy holidays!

Michelle

I wear a winter paddock boot with a suede half chap, this keeps the feet and lower legs really warm. I also wear a thermal sock, you can buy them at any sport shop, and you can also put in a insole liner with an insulated bottom to keep the cold out and the warm in. Here are a few boot suggestions.

I prefer the paddock boot and half chaps as I have more flexibility in the ankle and lower leg. Hope this helps. (I ride in Ontario can be -40C with the wind chill) LOL. Layer up your clothes as well.

I use battery-operated socks inside regular winter snow boots. I change out my stirrups to something big enough to accommodate the bigger boots. Toasty without getting too warm.

Hi, Michelle:

I ride in the interior of British Columbia, where we get lots of cold and snow. I ride in Mountain Horse Ice High Riders, and they are a godsend! I wear thick wool socks in them, and they keep me warm and cosy through my tacking up and through my warmup and rides. They're great for going to get horses in deep snow!

I also wear Kerrits Sit Tight 'n' Warm fullseat breeches, which are super comfy, go in the washer and dryer, and stick like crazy in the tack.

I just bought a pair of Mountain Horse Mountain High Riders. They rock! They have a lot of extra room in them for doubled socks and extra pant layers. They're very waterproof (my #1 criteria). They break in relatively quickly. I'm very pleased and so are my feet.
