I have a 16 month tb/paint filly, at the moment she is 13.3hh. Dad was a paint 14.3hh mum TB 16hh, mum died when she was 3 1/2month old.How do i know what height she will end up. Ive done all the measurements eg: length of elbow to fetlock, the measurement from the middle of knee to coronet band? Which is right or is it all a guessing game . I have also read that feeding up your young horse can help too.HELP!!

This is how I do the string measurement.. Anchor the one end of the string at the point of elbow, pull it down to the ergot or middle of the ankle, and mark the string at that point. Holding the string at the elbow and pivoting, take the end from the ankle up to the wither area,....where ever the mark is over the withers that is a good estimate of how tall your horse will be when finished growing.
Thanks, is that a straight line up or put the string along the body shape up?
straight up
I did that with my horse Oliver when he was 3 months old and it was 16.2 inches from his hoof to his knee bone,... right now he is 15.3... I'm not sure if he's done growing or not. He is 4 going on 5 and an appendix mustang.
Hummm, I would say he might get to just under 16hh or 16hh not to sure with that breed. My farrier said the same thing he has a horse that is very long in the canon bone.Looking at my filly last night she is the same length and bone structure as my TB & I have done the up the shoulder & the knee one & she hits 15.2 - 15.1hh so fingersx.
