We have a chapter of the Backcountry Horsemen here in Smithers, BC. Lots of great rides, packing clinics, social events etc. We have riders from all disciplines. It is a super way to spend time with your horse, see places you may not otherwise experience and meet fellow horse people. There are chapters all over Canada and the US...helping to preserve the backcountry for our enjoyment. If you are interested check out the backcountryhorsemen.com
Happy trails,
Cheryl

Hi Wendy, set myself up in a nice little cabin on the shores of Tyhee Lake. Private 55 acres. Lots of room for my dogs to wear themselves out! Been busy as can be with the ponies lately. Are you coming down to the fairgrounds this weekend? May see you there. Just going down for the halter on Friday. If you ever get a day with not too much on your plate, let me know and we'll go for a bite etc...
Always check my email first thing in the mornings and last thing at night.
Enjoy the heat!

Hi Eileen, so you know the country up this way. Lovely as it is, we sure had some wet, chilly weather for the last bit. Warming right up now though. Lots of horse stuff on the go. Have a young warmblood mare doing training level dressage, starting my 2 y/o QH gelding and have him in halter at the breed show this coming up weekend. Lots of fun. Not a big horse show participant, I see too much abuse there :(...but like to expose the young ones to that kind of busy environment. Go down for a couple hours, then back home. I used to show jump alot in my younger years, but now that I'm wiser???I can't help but think all that going around in circles just isn't near as much fun as heading for the hills. Once I get back out there I will post some pics.
Cheers,
Cheryl

Hi Cheryl, I worked for Lost Creek Ranch which was above Fairbanks and about 20 miles south of the Yukon River. It was way back in the middle of now where (what isn't up there) Then I returned in 200? To warngle for the same outfit on a sheep hunt in the Mt McKinley area. That was quite an experience. The owner of the outfit just died last year and his X wife who was with him both times I worked there keeps in touch with me. She does visit the kids in Alaska each summer.

Hi Eileen, just checked out your page and see you are from Dresden. My dad's family is from around there. Went to visit an uncle in Dresden years ago (around 30 or so years ago). Small world. Great pic of you and your horse. If you do ever end up coming west, you'll have to let us know...we could keep you busy riding all summer. Last year, the ranch I worked for hired a Parelli instructor to come all the way from Quebec. Took her about 5 days to get here. Would be a great cross Canada tour! Always have plenty of spare mounts. Just had a marvelous ride on my dun gelding tonight (the one in my pic)...back in the saddle feels pretty darn good. Have had this guy since he was a baby and now he is already 11 y/o. Anyways, getting back on him feels like coming home. Haven't been able to ride for 4 months. Am gearing up for a horse show in a couple of weekends and then enough work and will find more time for mountain riding. Who did you work for in Alaska. I spent a few years in the guide/outfitting camps for Kawdy Outfitters. Great way to earn a living!
Cheers,
Cheryl

oh come on girls i am jealous already with your planning. Wish i could join your but the miles are the biggest problem So many of your pictures bring fond memories back to me i am sure that i have been in soom of those meadows that you have up there. i worked at a outfitters in southern BC for the summer many years ago and we did the mountains there. Also the year before that i hauled a couple of horses of my own up to Alaska and worked for an outfitter there for the summer. To make sure that i did not miss anyting in the scenery or experience i too two different routes going and coming back. What a trip that was. Wish i could join you for lunch some day but it will not be this year.

Hi Eileen, thanks for joining the group. The local BCH group here organizes rides throughout the summer, some really great weekend long pack trips etc. Not getting much mountain riding in at the moment, foaling and starting young horses has eaten up the spring. Also had a shoulder job done earlier this year, so am just getting back in riding form. This northern British Columbia country is amazing to ride in. A few folks haul horses way up north to ride in Spatzizi Provinicial Park and in the Stikine River country. Telegraph Creek area is unbelievable as well. If you ever find yourself out west... Pretty much still true wilderness. Will keep things updated as to our summer adventures and will look forward to hearing about yours. Please post pics too if you get a chance. Would be nice to see what your country looks like.
