We have a chapter of the Backcountry Horsemen here in Smithers, BC. Lots of great rides, packing clinics, social events etc. We have riders from all disciplines. It is a super way to spend time with your horse, see places you may not otherwise experience and meet fellow horse people. There are chapters all over Canada and the US...helping to preserve the backcountry for our enjoyment. If you are interested check out the backcountryhorsemen.com
Happy trails,
Cheryl

Hey Wendy, thanks for the heads up on the kids camp. Went down and watched Tina and Dawn jumping. Really enjoyed it.
Missed you though I guess. Keep me posted on your availability to go for lunch.

Hi Shirley, I was curious about the BCH in your neck of the woods. Looked up the Michigan chapter - their website is bchmi.org I'm not familiar with your area, but it sounds like this is a motivated group. Do you have access to their rides etc.? Or have you ever had the opportunity to go out with the BCH? How is Cash doing? Hoping he has recovered completely...all sounded good last time I talked with you. I know that our most experienced rider is 84 years of age and still going strong. Sets the bar for the rest of us don't ya think? We had a poker ride last summer-there were 2 routes, one was 4 hours long and the other was 6 hours. There was about 80 riders and only 3 of us did the 6 hour ride. One was the 84 year old lady. We had a great time. On our return to the campfire, I heard all sorts of people saying it was too long of a ride (it is pretty rugged country). Had to point out that the only person who wasn't whining was not only 84 but had done two hours more riding than the rest of these Nancy's. Things sure got quiet in a hurry after that. No sense letting age, fear or common sense slow you down. Are you doing much riding these days? Was it you that moved from one barn to another? Remember something about that, but not 100% sure it was you. Hope things cool down a bit for you guys out that way...tough on all living creatures! Keep in touch.

Morning Wendy, am off to Larry's this morning to play with my young fellow so will plan to drop by the fairgrounds when I am done there. Should definitely make it in time to see the jumping at 1pm. Hope to see you there. Thanks for updating me on the schedule.

Hi Eileen, my dad's brother Is Melvin McRae (better known as Nub) his wife (now ex-wife) was Mabel. They had a whack of kids, can't remember all their names. Dresden was just a small little place when I was there and don't recall what county it would have been. I know my Uncle Nub remarried, and am not sure where they live now. We are just getting the heat you ladies from back east are talking about. Brutal...go from near freezing to cooking overnight. One saving grace is that it does tend to cool off at night. Hope you find some relief on your trip, have a great ride and please give us an update when you get back. Would love to be going with ya!
Cheers,
Cheryl

Shirley, I feel your pain with the heat. I think Michigan and Ontario share that. It has been brutal here for the last couple of days. Good news is, that the weekend will bring with it some cooler temps...thing is we need rain so very badly. Living smack dab in the middle of farming communities, we know how valuable a good rainfall can be. I am planning on leaving for a camping/trailriding excursion this Thurs. I sure hope that the further north I go the cooler it gets. I can dream can't i

It is very hot here in Michigan too. The past few days have been up into the 90's. that is just to darn hot. I am a backcountry horsewoman wanta-be. So I enjoy reading your adventures. Keep em coming. One of these days I'm gonna be able to head out to some trails and meadows and hills to enjoy them with my QH. He's just 9 and I'm 59 so we hopefully have a few years of running around in the wilderness ahead of us.

Sounds like a perfect place you have found Cheryl... nice for riding too I bet!! Not sure I will be at grounds this weekend, too far away to plan.. ha ha
I would rather be riding my own horse than watching others parading around on theirs.. ha ha With the exception of tina who is in 4h horse camp Mon - Wed this week. I am going to try to watch her tomorrow during day.. her and Dawn are in love... even if she does tend to hit the ground every now and then... true love it is!! her schedule tomorrow is: 10:00 - 11:00 English Jumping Equitation
2:00 - 3:00 Showmanship with horses (English warm up ring)
3:00 - 4:00 Barrels (Main ring)
She would love to see you again too !! We all would :)
Enjoy the sunshine...
Cheers

Hey Cheryl you say that your dad's family is from Dresden area...do you mind telling me the family name that you are connected to and what county they are from/ I am familiar with Lambton County and live in Kent county all around the Dresden area. Wouldn't it be interesting if there was another connection there.
I am busy fighting the extreme heat and humidity that we have right now. Horses and dogs and cats and people all show that they are having a rough time with it. We did have a bit of a repreive last week with the heat but not near long enough./ Now were are back in it full force now....rumour has it that we will enjoy another "cold spell" this comming week before the temps hike again. What fun eh?

Just noticing that we have 8 members, but only 3 of us are talking. Anyone else have some stories/photos they would like to share? Always interested to hear...
