We have a chapter of the Backcountry Horsemen here in Smithers, BC. Lots of great rides, packing clinics, social events etc. We have riders from all disciplines. It is a super way to spend time with your horse, see places you may not otherwise experience and meet fellow horse people. There are chapters all over Canada and the US...helping to preserve the backcountry for our enjoyment. If you are interested check out the backcountryhorsemen.com
Happy trails,
Cheryl

what gorgeous scenery, I am green with envy now. i did take pics on the Vt ride but i got them put on a disc at a drug store in NH one afternoon, and of course erased them from my camera, now my laptop cannot read the disc nor can my tv, and i tried them on a friends as w ell...nothing, soooo I took the disc into Walmart, and yest they are there...so i evidently do not have the right program to read the disc. You can see the dilema I am in...crap...back to the drawing board. I will take some pictures while in Tn, I always keep the people from Kentucky posted yearly of the horse that I bought from them in '07, he changes year to year. I know that I cannot get any pictures near what you have shown here...you have reminded me why I love to ride out there...Yes I will have to return one of these days.

Hi Wendy, hate to make you cry but here are a couple of nice pics from the Driftwood ride...it was fantastic as usual!!! Jet was great, he is 11 now and he was 4 when you took this photo. Time flies or what? If you want to post some of your pics there is a camera icon at the top of the comment box, click on that and it will allow you to upload your photos. Always love to look at them. You are so talented. The mountain trail pic that you are asking about was on the way into Silver King. A ride we could do next year if you could spare a day or two...sounds like you have managed to fit in a couple of nice rides Eileen. Pics you'd like to share? Are you guys having a nice fall back east? Maybe our photos will tempt you enough to make another trip to BC. It seems that the 3 of us do all the chatting here. Anyone else have stories about their summer to share. Love to hear about your adventures.
Happy trails to all.

Hey cheryl did you get to go to Driftwood Poker Ride ? I was in PG for weekend but hear there were like 119 riders! Sure sounds like Jet is looking his prime now, good for you girlfriend! Time put in sure makes a difference !! How old is Jet now ? I have no idea the numbers for anything but the Rodeo and I know we had packed stands every night, which was too bad it conflicted a little with Trainers Challenge, as that was fantastic I heard! Hard not to have some conflict with all the great horse events going on all 4 days! I didn't get up any mountains this summer again, just shots of riding in the creek; some rodeo shots.. I will have to figure out how to put on the site. Where are your pics Cheryl ? Love the one going down Mtn trail, where is it taken ?? I miss going riding in the mtns... I gotta find a way not to be so darn busy all summer!! it goes by so fast, too fast !! Happy fall riding everyone ! Enjoy !
ps - congrats to Eileen S for putting on a GREAT Poker Ride !!!!

Hey Cheryl, good for you to get all of the work done on your youngster. Your time and energy and patience will pay off in the end. I just got back from a great 3 week ride in Vermont. What a beautiful State with the fall colours comeing out, it was sad to leave them all behind altough coming back into eastern Ontario was also pretty, in my area we are still waiting for colours, no frost yet, it is still green. We could have used more rain during the summer, but did not happen and yet things look good. I have to regroup now to get ready for trip with horse to Tn, an anual trip I have been doing now for over 20 years. I had some brake trouble while in Vermont, got some things fixed but it still needs some work done before getting into the hills of Tn,. Got my laundry done last night after getting home, but it is overcast today and looks like the skies will open up any second now...well we wanted rain...soooo... lol
I am still waiting on the contractor to do a little job in my new shed/garage/storage/barn/ etc building...the lumber is here, but nothing done yet...it all takes time, I have been trying to get this done for the past two years after the old building burned down...why is it they go up in smoke over night but takes years to be rebuilt. At least I still have the big old barn that still looks good in spite of being 150 years old...I should look so good at that age.

Hello out there! How was everyone's summer? Can't believe it is almost October...that was quick. Any rate now preparing for winter, firewood etc. This is the first full summer that I have had off in 20+ years and I packed it full of horse! Spent 3 months on my 2 y/o and now enjoying my Jet (the guy in the photo). You wouldn't recognize him Wendy, he hasn't much body fat now. Looks as good as he does in this photo that you took 7 years ago now, if you can believe that. There was lots of horsey stuff going on in Smithers during the late summer early/fall as well. The annual Bulkley Valley Fall Fair was fantastic as usual. There were upwards of 150 entries for the light horse classes and am not sure of the numbers for the heavy horse division. Perhaps you know more Wendy. In addition to the rodeo, the organizers added a Trainers Challenge to this years fair. It was a big success, the stands were jam packed and there was no standing room left on the final night. Eileen, how did your summer treat you...did you get any pics you would like to share. Have you been getting some rain. The weather sure is changing these days, so am hoping to get a bit more summer in October. Does not hurt to hope. Will post some more pics soon, but sure would like to see some other parts of the country. Do you people not take pictures! LOL
Regards,
Cheryl

Cheryl, depending on how many years back you were last in Dresden you might not recognize it. It now has a traffic light right smack dab in the middle of town...the main drag has not changed all that much many of the old store fronts are there but no one is home. if you know what I mean. The river bank has changed some in the last 15 years or so. The race track has a new look to it, there is now a casino involved, always busy there. I guess there are a few more homes built in the outskirts of town, and Dresden is located in the county of Kent which has been changed to Chatham-Kent municipality, I liked it when we were our own county in our own township, but we can't fight progress. Lambton County is our neighboring county which is only a stones throw away. I do recognize the McRae name, not your uncles but another fellow rider who has since passed lived in Lambton County. Small world isn't it. It is still sizzling hot today, it is supposed to rain and cool off on Friday, I am looking forward to that
