Hi everyone. We are a great group with a common history. Its great to hear all of the stories! I took lessons for 10 years and taught riding at camp as a young person. As a city girl I did not have many options. So as an adult (before kids) I was limited to the occasional trail ride. But, I was always on the lookout for a chance to ride. On my honeymoon in Mexico, I went riding on the beach every day(alone, foolishly). On day I went off the resort property (again, foolishly) and was attacked. A man was calling for help and as I approached he tried to pull me off. Let me tell you if it weren't for that sweet, wonderful horse whisking me away like the wind.... To this day he is the most beautiful horse I have ever been on!

But my fondest memory is running full speed down a hillside in Ireland. I have family in Ireland who are in horses (they've raced at Ascot!!) so it's always fun to go there.

Anyway I can't wait to hear everyone else's stories!

My best memory lately is galloping in the snow after the snowstorm at the end of March last year. I was riding my friends horse and the drifts were deep enough the horses had to leap through them.
Sounds lovely!
I used to ride my Sundance in the snow and my brother and Mom would ride their snowmobiles beside us. The snow flew from his feet and he loved it! I also used to pull my brother on a toboggan behind us. One day I hitched Sundance to a sleigh and from that very first day, he loved it. I had a blast with that horse, he was my best friend for 25 years and I think about him most every day.
My fondest memory to date with the horses is being a child and my my Father driving us an hour to HSE for my riding lessons with Auriel about 30 years ago and more....and riding with no worries in the world...I do miss my Dad, but riding my horse everyday present holds a piece of my Dad with us always and forever with the horses.
gosh, I have so many fond memories as horses have always been a part of my life....One of my best memories is riding double with my husband on a cold winter day through deep snow....we were riding bareback so we were nice and warm, it was great.
Now that would be sweet! Good memory and thaks for sharing
Hi Robin
I have join up only minutes ago, and so far it's been so exciting. Your story about Mexico sound so much like something I would do. Glad to hear you and the horse are ok.
I have many relatives in Ireland as well. None that have horses though.
Hi Kathy!
Yes my family are big into horses over there. Its great to visit but then I come back to my boring old suburban lifestyle!! But I am slowly changing that, starting with my move from the city to be closer to horse country. I am having great fun.
I placed at the Adelaide International 3DE on a wild card acceptance
Fondest memories eh? Well as I sit here thinking and trying to choose which ones to share I will try and do justice to a Poker Ride I was on. Here in B.C.'s northwest we do something called a Poker Rider to support the Children's Wish Foundation, this particular one was in May of 2006, some of you may have been there. It start at a place called Round Lake in a farming community called Quick and meandered up into the forests and fields behind the host farm. Steadily we climbed, I was riding my black morgan gelding Parka who has a quick steady pace as he travels the trails and this day was no different he loves trail rides and gives his best on everyone. He has a huge work ethic and never say die attitude. Anyway the day was glorious and sunny a beautiful azure blue to the sky and not a cloud in it. If you have ever been to the northwest of B.C. you know the mountains there, snow capped and jagged, rising 7000 feet above sea level and more. As we climbed higher and farther from the starting point we passed through beautiful green hay fields not ready to cut, with the wind blowing gently causing the grass to move in waves like on the ocean rolling and turning. This unnerved Parka somewhat but he kept going because he could see horses ahead and wanted to catch up. When we finally reached the summit we found ourselves amongst lodge pole pine and being a warm day the scent was strong coming off them. Farther along the trail we met with other riders and shared greetings and trail experiences, but as I said before Parka couldn't hang around and wait he wanted to see more. This ride took 4 hours and as we neared the end we rode up this long gradual hill covered in grass and all you could see is the hill sillouetted against the azure blue sky. Nearing the top we broke into a jog cresting the hill to see a beautiful white snow capped peak burst into view. Parka and I stopped and stared in awe at the view, the snow capped mountain, the clear blue lake below, the azure blue sky and the warm spring breeze blowing and cooling us. We stood in wonder for several moments and felt frozen in time and thoroughly blessed to have seen such an amazing sight. That was the highlight of the ride and wouldn't you know, I didn't bring a camera. It seems all my best memories are locked in my memory, I guess that is the true permanent record. After that splendid view we wound our way down the hill and back to the starting point.
Hey Cindy, I was on that ride. Hearing you talk about it makes me wish I was still on it! Looking for a ride for a yearling QH gelding from Edmonton to Princeton. If you hear of anyone travelling that way could you please let me know. The new job is going great. Totally immersed in the Parelli method at the moment. Very cool to learn new things. Keep in touch!
Cheers,
Cheryl
Good to hear from you Cheryl!! :-) How cool to land a job where you get to work with horses and learn Parelli, that is awesome! So,....ya gonna come home and teach it? ;-)
