Medication and other ways of coping 36 Replies

Upping my Paxil prescription has really seemed to help. My doc feels this new higher dose will keep me from getting to the lows. I also try to walk often. What are you specifically doing for yourself?

We just saw The Fourth Kind, about alien abductions and UFOs. I love that kind of stuff. Don't know how much was factual, but it was riveting.

Anxiety, depression, exhaustion, despair. Yup, they interfered with my proper purpose in life--being with and enjoying my horses!
I got through a lot of bad times by focusing ALL my spare energies into my horse/horses. After all they are so much more important than a clean house.
Just do not expect it to make you feel better immediately. Be content with the smallest progress. Time may not heal all wounds, but the pain tends to moderate over the months and years.
If you get an anxiety attack when you are around your horse it may help to TELL the horse what you are experiencing (and be sure to loosen the death grip on your reins/lead rope.) If you are talking to your horse you will keep breathing. The great thing about horses is that you can tell them the same thing for THOUSANDS of times and they really don't care. Your horse will be there long after everyone else is sick and tired of hearing about all of your problems, patiently listening and sometimes giving a gentle nudge with their nose.
