Hey Shirley, you think we've learned anything yet?

Welcome Jackie! We are fortunate to make it to this age and still be able to ride our horses. we're fortunate to make it to this age and just be here.

Enjoy! Seems each age has it's own blessings and challenges.

I can now join this group.  I hit 60 a few weeks ago.

At least I still get to ride horses!

Looking forward to many great rides this year with my mare. I am not a good cold weather rider but hope to at least ride her once this month. I usually ride at least a couple of times each month during the winter. I used to be able to take a day off work during the week, but with cut-backs and budget issues, it is impossible for me to just take off. There was an arena we could go to on Tuesdays but since I can't take off, I haven't ridden in a couple of months. But I am going to try to ride a little more each month until spring. I do lots of trail riding during the spring, summer and fall. Love going to different places to ride. This year we will go to TN and MO besides lots of riding in Indiana.

Merry Christmas everyone and happy riding in 2011.  Hope you all stay fit and active and mostly, stay in love with riding !    Just downloaded the new dressage tests for 2011.

You are so right Elaine.. she has taught me more than any horse I've had in the past. She is such a complex little character and just so smart.. her evasions have been some of the best I've come across, really made me think outside the box..

Wow! Great story. What's that saying?...."when the student is ready the teacher will come..." I guess you were both ready at the same time. Good luck and happy riding !

A bad fall from a horse I was training for a friend nearly put an end to my riding.. but thankfully after a couple of years mending I'm back in the saddle. Going to a clinic this weekend with my mare who has given me so much over the past three years. She came to me as a badly abused horse of three years old so we were perfect for each other. I couldn't ride and she didn't want to be ridden. Now, after all this time working together on the ground, we both trust each other to look after each other.

I totally agree!! I'm always learning something new with my horses about me and about life.

I also audit as many dressage clinics as possible, and ride in as many as possible. I manage to board out one of my horses at a place with an indoor arena every wionter - good for me and the horse ! There's just always so much to learn, evern after 30 years with horses...
