I have found that to keep my mobility I HAVE to ride horses. Horses, through the decades, have been the only reason I didn't just disolve into a little puddle of misery.
You should heal up well after all your surgeries. You have something to keep you physically able, the horses. You will ride again!
I've been on the surgery trail since November. Had a tumor on my ovary removed just before Christmas, no cancer, turned out to be neither benign or cancerous but in the middle, might come back in 30+ years :-))) I'm going for a surgeon's consult for hip surgery at the end of January, then on a waiting list. In the meantime I recover from the tumor surgery and get ready for riding again. Not going to sit around and waste away until hip surgery, going to build my strength and get fit and ride again. :-)
Yep, I am still riding! I don't own any horses any more, but I see and ride a few horses every week.
I'm new to Barnmice and to these groups! I have 4 Thoroughtbreds and an Appaloosa. I ride mostly dressage and pleasure these days. I have foxhunted, evented(low level), competed in dressage and some hunters. I like to trail ride. At 65, jumping isn't as easy. I live in Virginia, USA, and still work full time - teaching school. I love taking care of the horses as much as riding.
Hi Joe, I am sorry you had to sell your horses, that can be HARD.
May some wonderful horses become your friends and riding companions, horses who like you, horses with smooth gaits, cooperative horses, and horses that will bloom under your care and riding.
Joe Robertson I just got notification of your last comment and saw your comment from last Oct. about your tumors shrinking. I hope that has continued to be the case and that you are feeling well. This weather is helpful in feeling better over the gray days that we often get this time of year.
Enjoy!!
Great riding weather down here too, in the high 70's-low 80's F. Shirt sleeves, sweating while riding, 20 F above normal, the flying bugs have come out to harass the horses and their riders.
Tomorrow it is Spring!!!!
