35 C temp, 41C heat index here, it may not get up to 98 F after all.

Take care in the heat Gail.  We need you around!

We measure heat in metric units.  The last few days I did not ride as I am prone to heat stroke.  Also had 4 grandchildren under 8 years old for a couple of days.  If you can convert a reading of 32 degrees celsius and a  humidex reading of 41 you know how it has been!  I am glad my barn owner is able to keep my horse excersized as I am working on another issue of the farm paper I put out monthly.

Beautiful weather for the next few days butt I still have to pay my way!

It is HOT today, and very muggy.  Supposed to get up to 98F today.  I rode, I sweated, even at 8 AM it was hot.

I tried my ice vest, I took my ice vest off.  When I wear it my body decides to get rid of all the heat through my head.  D____ if I do, D____ if I don't.

At least I rode!

How are all of you up in the Northern Hemispere coping with the heat?

I feel so blessed to have horses again. These last 6 years have been wonderful. I have met so many great horse people and have gotten to take my mare to trail riding in many different areas. This month we are headed to KY to ride for 5 days.

Hi Sue!  You just wrote the story of my life right now.  I work to pay the trailer payments and the board.  I love my job and won't be retiring until I am on the wrong side of the dirt. I turned 66 past October.  Same age, same story!

I will be 66 this summer and am still working. My husband( a none horse husband) retired in 99 and he is 8 years older than me. In 2005, I was lucky to be able to get back into horses. I had to start from scratch. So one horse, three horse trailers, a diesel truck later, I need to work to pay for it all. I started out with a two horse stock trailer, sold it and got a two horse goose neck with weekend living quarters, sold it and then got a three horse goose neck with 8 ft of living quarters. My working pays for this and my trail riding trips. I would like to retire, but that isn't in the cards for a while. I do like my job and would like to go part-time in a couple years. Having my mare is so worth it to me, that working longer is okay.

Cindy, have you tried exchanging riding time on your horses with helping to clean stalls or some other chores? Many people are willing to work off some of their board too or work for lesson time. You many have already tried these things...I've seen it work well for others.

I here you Jackie and agree, except the horse chores are infinite as well.  Stall cleaning if not on pasture, pasture cleaning if they are, arena harrowing indoor or outdoor, on and on it goes ad infinitum, all necessary to keep our horses healthy. I for one do not have folks to do that for me so I have to take care of it or it doesn't get done.  But, I have found a way to get my horses used and that is allowing others to ride them.  I start them in the arena and once I am confident they are all going to get along safely, they can come and ride the same horse when they wish. Not much money in it but the horse get worked.  Sad thing is I only ride once or twice a week because of the chores.  Oh hey....and forget about house work and yard work :-) Hubby does help and does a lot but our place is big and it takes the two of us to barely keep up, we need help in a lot of areas but can't afford it.

Well said Jackie!  I believe I am going to be back on track.  2 lovely days coming Thursday and Friday and the weekend and I am on it!
