Good points Jackie! Since I retired I ride every morning first thing. I spent many years doing everything else first: kids, work, housekeeping, etc. and tried to squeeze in rides here and there. Now it's my time to do what I love and the other chores can wait.:-)

There is an infinite amount of work that needs to be done, even if you are retired.

This work will never be finished, because there is an infinite amount.

Finishing all your work before you ride guarantees you will never ride.

All your chores will still be there no matter what you do.  Days of perfect riding weather are few and far between.  Take advantage of them, ride your horses, and your memories will make you feel better while you do your infinite chores.

Of course riding on less than perfect days is wonderful too!

I guess I am going to prioritize.  Good weather Thursday , as it  has been 32 and humid.  Perhaps the morning before the emails start and the phone rings.  I used to get to the barn at 9 am and will have to start that again.  I guess I answered my own question.!

I live in Southern California so we usually have pretty steady weather patterns featuring sunshine. However, this year has been pretty unpredictable with lots of rain. Just rained for 3 days which is pretty unheard of here in June. Luckily, I just moved to a barn which has a covered arena, you don't see too many of those around here but it was great to be able to ride in the rain.

If any of you are still working for a living, how do you keep the time for riding?  We have very different weather patterns from day to day .  I guess that is an axcuse!  2 years ago I could get up early and ride at 9 am and come back to my office work. I need to ride but also need to ride!  How do you keep the balance?

Thank you for the welcome ladies! I agree that we can definitely do it. My plan is to keep riding until I'm well into my 80's and maybe beyond ;-) There's a woman who lives here who rides her horse every year in one of our local small town parades and she's in her late 90's now, she's my role model! cheers, Leanne

Hey, Leanne! Welcome to the group. I belong to a group of lady riders and many of us are in our 50's and 60's. We drive our trucks, pull our trailers and ride, ride and ride. One of my best friends is a little lady that is 70, she will ride the pants off of you. We can do it.

I just discovered this group! How cool! I turned 61 in May and am riding everyday. I retired 4 years ago and, after a 15 year hiatus from owning a horse, bought one a couple of months after I retired and have been riding steadily ever since :-) Had a riding accident last year that resulted in a fractured knee and some fractured ribs but I'm back in the saddle again now. I've ridden on and off for 40+ years and had my first serious accident at 60! oh well, just grateful I'm recovered now. I rode English for many years, hunters and dressage and trail but 3 years ago decided to cultivate my "inner cowgirl" and start riding Western. I've been looking for my Western discipline and have started Western Dressage and Ranch Sorting and am having a blast. I'm excited about finding a discussion group of other "seasoned" women still active in the saddle. :-) BTW, I live in California about 3 hours above L.A.

The other thing one needs at this time of our lives is a sense of humour, a really good one.  We do enough stuff that is silly so we might as well get on with it and laugh at ourselves.  Every one else is laughing anyhow!  I come to this site as it has become my old person's Linus blanket!
