O.K. what exactly is DSL, I mean as far as what I need to hook up or what ever...do I have to change my server or buy another gadget to be able to take advantage of the DSL if it is close enough to me?

Hi Eileen,
Oh now I understand. I had dial up when I first built my house out in the boonies of AZ and could not afford satellite. I would come home from work, turn on the computer and click on email and go outside to clean the corral, feed the horses and whatever needed to be done. If I was lucky, all my email would receive. haha! After my fiance' moved in he said not while I'm around, so we got satellite, I said whatever you want honey, you're buying! So we had that for a year or two and was great after being on dial up but then they did a huge upgrade and the satellite went very wrong and we had huge problems. After talking to the neighbor around the mountain, I found out we had DSL for a year but didn't know it. I immediately called my telephone company and they tried to tell me that I wasn't close enough. I told them that they needed to come out here and check because I was sure I was close enough. Sure enough, when they finally did come out I was within 2000' of the last connection on that hub. You have to be within 18,000' of the hub where all the electronics come from and they route it out to your phone line. So we have had that for a year now and are as pleased as punch with it. And it's much cheaper than satellite and more reliable. Cable will probably never come out this far. It took 10 long years for DSL to come out.

I know what you mean about not wanting to invest in a lot of expensive equipment and have it be obsolete in a year, I have done that in the past with computers and cameras.

Your pictures say it all, beauty and happiness! Glad you had a good time! I like the photos.

Thanks for all of the hints and help Janet, the real big problem is the dial up it takes ages for one image to upload. Sometimes the computer cuts off after so long. We don't have cable anything out here and I refuse to invest a bunch of $$ on so many electronics that will be obsolete in a year. I know the Scottish blood keeps hanging on even generations later. I did manage to get one smaller image to upload it is scenery but it shows where we stopped and watered the horses beautiful area.you can find it on my page.

Hey Eileen: Should I start a group for riders in Ontario who are eligible to collect the Old Age Pension and the CPP or should we just stick to the Over 60's?

BTW, we will be leaving for Boston, Mass for our cruise in a few days. I already have a horseback ride reserved in Saint John, New Brunswick in their 2200 acre park. Hope the weather is good. It's at 1pm. Hoping to see lots of fall foliage as I purchased a brand new camera, hopefully to be picked up today. It's a new superzoom with all the latest bells and whistles. Can't wait. Will talk with you ladies when I get back and have more time. Now going crazy trying to figure out what to pack and weight of the luggage, etc.

Hi Eileen,
Hope you had a great time. Sounds like a lot of fun. \

In response to your question about getting your photos loaded online, do you have an sd card that they are on taken by digital camera? If you do, then you probably have a card reader that hooks up to the usb ports on your computer.....I'm assuming here that you know how to do that and then usually it will come up automatically and it wants to know where you want to put your pictures on the computer. Indicate where and let it do it's thing. Do you have a photo software to fix the photos and put them in jpeg format? I really love my Adobe Photoshop 5.0. Can't ever let a photo out without fixing it (adjusting color, contrast, etc.). But that's just me. Then you get on a site and I'm assuming it's the Barmice site that you want to upload to? If so, then click on the link above for photos, then +add photos, then the box pops up and it says click to add photos, then there will be a click down box for the various areas where things are on your computer. On mine it goes to the last place I was which was in My Documents. If you store your photos in the same place with different folders then you can just click to where they are, open the folder then click on the photo or photos one at a time or maybe you can do multiples by holding down the shift or ctl key. Then just click upload. Wait for it to upload. For each photo just click add more and do the same thing. Then when uploaded you can fill out the title, description, etc., whatever you want to call it and then save. Does this help? It's all very methodical and it's kind of like reading a map going from one place to the next to the next. Pretty easy. Janet
