Really good to find out where all us old farts hang out!  Cindy, most of my body parts have gone south.  The rest of me is here!

Just read your bios, they were great!  I always wondered where everyone came from and how they related to their horses. I am from northwest B.C., in a beautiful area called the Bulkley Valley.  I have 5 geldings, my last mare from my breeding program died Dec. 5, 2010 so now it's me and all the boys.  Looking at the live bodies around here I truly am the only female on the place, with my husband, dog, cat and 5 horses :-)   I am the Light Horse show manager for the Bulkley Valley Exhibition which takes place August 25 -28.  The LH show puts on a horse show that lasts 4 days with English and Western flat classes, Jumping, Hunter, Dressage, Driving events and APHA, ApHCC, AQHA point classes.  Approximately 150 horses enter the events, it's the largest horse show in northwestern B.C. I am a CHA Instructor so teach riding lessons and group horsemanship programs throughout our short summer.  I also train horses in the natural way using techniques from Roy Yates, Doug Mills, Pat Parelli and many others.  I believe all trainers need to have a bag of tricks to choose from for every situation and so far I have chucked a few of mine because they don't work as well as maybe something else someone younger has worked through. I am a life learner and a life time learner and love to share what I have learned

I guess you could say I have lived a healthy life, a little overweight but have managed it so far by staying active to balance it out.  I think at 60 yr. things are catching up to me.

Hi Cindy!   I think this group is one of the most important ones to me.  We need the help with the things other people of our age might have already been through!  Am I correct in asking if you have had a colonoscopy  before?

Welcome Joe, we are a great source of support in some of our toughest times. It's great to hear from folks all over the continent and around the world.

Gail: About my colonoscopy doctor, he has a very good "bed side" manner, he listens to my concerns, answers all my questions honestly and his manner puts me at ease to the point I can trust he will take good care of me and has my best intersts at heart.  He is my daughter's family doctor, delivered her baby and is her hubby doctor as well.  Since I was present at my grandaughter's birth 15 months ago, the doc and I have a connection that way as well, so when my GP referred him I was totally assured.  That's why I say he is understanding.

I deal with an adopted BLM mustang that I've had for 7 years come July 31st.  Which is when I got involved with horses. Though I rode as a teenager, and got into 2 rodeos in my early 20s.  He's now 10 yo.  We do not have any issues to speak of.  He's an easy keeper and gentle to a fault.  He's on about 4 acres.  At times I will go to the shady portion.  When he notices that I'm not within 50 feet of him, he'll break into a gallop and circle his pasture till he finds me.  Which normally a materr of 5 seconds or less.  I no longer ride due to an incident last Now 1st that did a lot of damage(fractures) to my left shoulder, clavical, scapula and 2 ribs.  At my age, it made my eyes water til the EMTs showed up!

Gitano( pronounced (HEE-tah-noh - Spanish for gypsy), boards at a facility with 7 other horses on 26 acres.  The horses are in groups of 1, 2, 3 heads.  Mine is solo because he will eat his rations - then go after any feed intended for a pasture mate.  But he is within easy sight and smell of 6 of the 8 horses.  I've learned more from him than him from me.

Short profile on me I guess!  I am 66 and live in Central Ontario and board a  horse out!  I have a Rocky Mountain Pleasure horse!  We live on 3 cares but don't want the horses in the back yard.  I have a bunch of small things that slow me down such as feet that are more like rockers and cause a lot of unbalance and I fall a lot.  My horse is coming back from a horrific founder and getting better every day.  I learned a lot of things about this condition and find there are several ways to treat the condition.  I have a truck and trailer and a horse for me and my old man.  He needs some miles on that horse but we hope to get out this summer with the trailer.   Still working almost full time to pay for the horse's professionals.

Hi Joe!  I live in the southern part of North Carolina (USA), around 30 miles east of Charlotte, NC.  I live in Stanly County, which is sort of an island of silt (not much organic matter), sandstone. flint and slate between the sand hills to the east and south and the red clay areas to the north and west.  One geolgist told me Stanly County was essentially one big rock that is slowly breaking down.  There used to be trails around, I am glad I made use of them when my MS wasn't as bad!  If I had the energy, the horse, a trailer and something to pull it with there are horse trails at Morrow Mountain State Park around 20 miles away, and not all the roads in Stanly County are paved.  Beautiful land here, rolling hills.

I am on disability for MS.  I no longer own horses, I did not replace mine as I got weaker and weaker.  I now ride other people's horses so at least I get to be around them some most weeks.  Even though I no longer have horses I LOVE living on my 10 acres on a dead end gravel road!

Hi Joe!  It is always good to get a small bio of the members of this group.  I already address the wrong person about a condition someone else had  More later.

Still working almost full time selling ads for a   monthly regional farm paper.
