Having said that I have a friend who is a 'fiery redhead' (she knows who she is!) and she has a chestnut mare -the combination can be quite intense! The dynamics are fascinating... but whether the colour of their hair matters I dunno!

Yeah you're probably right......any problems horses have are always caused by people.

Well there are certainly some suggestions that chestnut mares are more volatile than others, but whether there is any scientific basis for that or not I don't know. Often the old 'horse tales' come from some kind of ancient wisdom based on observation of horses over the centuries. I don't think my horse is particularly volatile - its more a people issue for him.

oh yes, good point!

I'm interested to know if these issues are part of being a chestnut horse. Are they more sensitive as in (red head)? Everyone's heard about how red heads are supposed to be more volatile? Is it the same with the chestnuts?

Hi there. I have a chestnut Irish Draught/Hanovarian who goes by the name of Ben. He's 13 this year but he acts like he is about 3! Like CIndy's horse, he also will do anything on the ground, but has 'issues' when saddles are around. Long story ... !
