Hi there again. I am working on an item on my bucket list. I've always wanted to try my hand at driving. :) I took a lesson from a local coach with a seasoned Morgan who was very patient with my horrible directing. It was really cool, just feels a lot faster than it looks.
Thought I should try it at least once to see if I like it, and to learn how to hook up safely and start properly. :)
It was a lot of fun! I could see Magie and I doing a bit of driving someday. Maybe down the trails, or into town? Already I have secret plans to show her in Dressage when she grows up and whatever else tickles her fancy... :)
Since putting my 'two cents' in, I've had a chance to talk to a friend who shows Welsh. She mentioned that we could approach the committee when we are ready, but really what the Royal Committee is interested in is NUMBERS, and the cash that associates. Can we provide enough entries to justify a show? She said a few years ago, the Welsh were in danger of disappearing from the Royal, but rallied their numbers and are back strong which is great. She also mentioned, that each of their horses entries, stall, tack stall (shared even...) was about 500.00 per horse. Also, they compete for points at various shows to be able to show for the Sport Pony on the Sunday. I don't know about the Welsh show. So this is a future dream, but needs some work.
Okay, I must admit, I was completely oblivious to the crazy stuff going on so again....Don't throw poo at me. People are passionate, and can have disagreements.....After talking with a few people from corners of the Canadian horse-lovers world, I am disappointed in some of the politics that have happened over the years and the bad feelings, and think that I should just join as a member and help where I can for now. I will join not only UCD next year, but yes....CHBA too to stay in the loop. Before I jump in with both feet, I think I'd better not land on anyone's toes.... I just LOoove my horse and want to promote her breed like crazy! :)
Don't get me wrong though, I have not met a more passionate and helpful group of people than those associated with the Canadian Horse. Magie and I feel so welcome, with everyone we meet. So on a positive note I think in the future, there is some healing to be done, but there will be a progressive and supportive environment for all Canadian horse owners. I do get the feeling that everyone actually is striving for this.
Hi Virginia. I would love to come out the AGM and meet everyone. I can also do a bit of background research into the items. I was curious why the UCD disappeared out of the CHBA newsletter and I DO want to see it back there. I think it's important to see what the group in Ontario is up to. :)
I'm going outside to give Magie a hug. :)
Can an official letter from the UCD be sent to the Orangeville Fall Fair (or other Fall Fairs) enquiring about adding a Canadian show to their line up? This would be necessary to find out about funding. The worse they can do is say No. It would be worth the cost of a letter to find out. I think the Fall Fair boards actually provide some funding in the way of prize money or other costs (stalls and ring use)? If not for the 2012 show how about 2013 show.
I agree with everything. It would be awesome to have a breed show at the royal, and to have an ad inthe CHBA newletter. Problem is time, man power and money. Laura if you'd like to work on any of these projects or other things that need to be done we welcome more help.
It costs a lot of money to do the royal. I went with my work this year and the number $50,000 was tossed around as our expense just to be there. Now i know it probably would be different if we were showing there but still where would this money come from? The UCD is basically broke 90% of the year. We need fund raising ideas that go outside of our breed.
I repeat if you wish to help Laura we will be having our Annual meeting in the new year and we would love to have you come out and have your thoughts and ideas voiced to the board.
I agree there should be a breed show for Canadians at the Royal. Other breeds are represented (Shetland, TBs, STBs,Hackney ponies and horses, Percheron, Clydesdales,Belgians, Warmbloods,Welsh, etc). There could be a day long breed show in the ring in the Horse palace like the other breeds have.
Hi folks. Went to the Royal, and it was great to once again see a Canadian represented. The question I have to ask though, wouldn't it be great to see our Canadians have a Championship show at the Royal?
Over 25 years ago, I fell in love with the breed, but had no funds, and the horses just weren't available to me at the time. I gave up and bought myself a Canadian Sport horse. (She was an awesome Clyde/TB cross....Had her for 18 years)
Finally after much research and the support of many of you to find my new future partner, I bought my little dreamgirl Litjens Champlain You're*Magic. Yup. I plan to use her full name when showing. She's Magie in the barn. I have loved Canadians all of this time, never meeting one I didn't like. They are quick learners, and willing to try anything. My PNH instructor is so impressed by how centered she is even at 6 mo old! An amazing future partnership for sure. I see horses out there like Figaro who are doing it all....and ended up on the cover of a magazine (Way to Go!!!) and hope that Magie and I can be great ambassadors for the breed. Demonstrations, competitions, maybe try different disciplines (even though I really am drawn to Classical Dressage). Maybe someday I will breed her, but I actually bought her as a performance horse first.
I wondered what had happened to the show at Orono. It was just south of me and really convenient. When was the last time there was a judged breed show at the Royal???? What is going on that the UCD isn't listed in the CHBA newsletter anymore? Why isn't anyone interested in filling the positions for representing Ontario? I don't want to step on any toes being new here, but I am just as passionate as the next Canadian lover to see our breed flourish instead of diminishing. It's Canada's National Horse for goodness sake!!
I bought my horse first because of who she is, second what I can do with my partnership with her.
Sorry to go on and on, and don't throw poo balls at me, but I felt I had to speak up. :)
Went to the Royal last Thursday. had so much fun. It was nice to see the Canadian Booth. Thanks to Brenda Pantling, our breed is represented every year. It takes time, money and a lot of work to participate in the Spirit of the Horse program. Thanks for doing this for our breed Brenda.
It is commonly available. Both Greenhawk and Bahrs stock this.
