Question? What is the total weight of hay that you as a Canadian horse owner are feeding them? I would like some ideas of what you feel is an appropirate amount  for this breed.

I didn't watch, but maybe I will every now and again! :)

Shame, Pearl must be quite upset...

Hey I don't know how many of you have been watching the Mare Stare site of the Mini Horses. One of the births didn't go well. Pearl lost her foal during delivery. You can see Heathers explanation of the complications. That site is an excellent teaching tool. Got to give those ladies a lot of credit. It was a very sad day.

Scooter has a tendency to be a bit cranky at times as well.  This ususally happens when he is learning something new.  He is learning rein back in-hand and he made it quite clear he didn't like this thing.  Yesterday was his third try and he seems to understand now.  He really understands the mint reward at the end!  He will go for periods of training time as an excellent student but then he has  times where he decides he has to try and see what he can get away with.  Last night he was trying to do a "slow motion" canter so I tapped him with my whip and I got a big buck.  But I was expecting this and used it to get a better canter and a better trot so he was flowing into his bends.  Overall when I look back at where he was a year ago he has made tremendous progress.  there were times when I thought I would have give him away as a cart horse.

She got some of their Suspensory saver for her Canadian who ruptured his annular ligament last August.  She started him on it 2 weeks ago.  His ankle was huge.  Within 2 weeks  the swelling went down and he looks normal now!

Hi Queenrider,

Great to hear from you! I was thinking about Scooter lately, and wondering how he is doing. It's great to hear that he likes his job. Maybe he can have a chat with The Squirt. ;)

He is doing a lot better. We still have some skin and hair to (hopefully) fill in, and now we are working on breaking up scar tissue, but he is coming along. We have a long road ahead, and we don't know what the final outcome will be... but he does trot, and does tiny bits of canter, in his paddock, so that makes up hopeful! We are gradually increasing his groundwork in the arena, and that makes him a bit cranky. He does get a bit owie as the scar tissue stretches, and he resents the end to his extended vacation! *lol* He will adjust though. He is a very fun little horse. :)

Hi Ferrous!  How is your Canadian doing?

Scooter seems to like dressage and is working on First level stuff.  My coach wants me to show him and I know he can do it.  Showing is very expensive  when you don't have your own truck/trailer.  Maybe I will ask my boss for a huge raise so I can afford to show!

The UCD is holding a riding clinic this month - riders and horses of all disciplines and levels of experience are welcome. I have posted the details in a group discussion.

The clinics are fun and supportive, and it's a great way to meet other Canadian Horse owners (and their horses). :)

I too am waiting for the  snow to go and the ground to dry up so we can start driving and rding again.  The ice is so bad under the snow that we couldn't get the sleigh out if we tried. The ruts and bumps where the gground melts and then freezes amkes for very treacherous footing for horses and humans!

But.... Spring is comming. I know that because the hair is coming out of the horses by the handful!!

Well I don,t know about everyone else but I and my girls (horses) are sick of the snow. If it isn't the snow hindering any kind of riding or training it's the ice under the snow. It seems like we just get a melt down and then it freezes all the slush. I'm nots so lucky as to have an arena like some people and am still looking for a trailer. Come on SPRING.
