My boyfriend and I took my horse to a Canadian Horse show... our first show together. I was a little terrified of my first show, but I am thrilled that my horse did well and his humans had a great time. We were looking forward to meeting other Canadian Horse owners and fans, and we met a wonderfully supportive group of people with some very nice horses there. However we were a little disappointed that fewer people and horses attended than we expected. Since we love Canadian Horses, and especially because they are a rare breed, we feel some responsibility to get my boy out there and show off his beauty, versatility and sweet temperament. We want people to learn about this amazing breed and so we plan to bring him to shows regularly. We really would like to see more Canadian Horses at open shows as well.

If you do see a Canadian Horse show, or a fair with Canadian Horse classes in your area, please attend and support the folks who are organising opportunities for us to showcase our heritage breed. Whether you are an exhibitor with a horse to bring, or a spectator who wants to learn more and see lovely Canadian Horses in action, attendance is a great way to help ensure that Canadian Horses continue to have a place to show. You are also likely to have a heck of a lot of fun and get hooked on attending Canadian Horse shows... we sure did!

It was interesting to see this in the "International Horse News" section:

http://www.horsetalk.co.nz/news/2009/09/017.shtml

"Fifty horse DNA samples have been delivered to a Texas university by two horse riders to further the knowledge of the Canadian horse breed."

Hi All!
William Micklem has added a terrific blog post this morning that I thought might interest this group. Would love to hear your ideas! :) http://www.barnmice.com/profiles/blogs/rats-rewards-amp-results-part

Hi All -

I own two Canadian mares that we show, enjoy and will soon be breeding (once the economy turns around). My neighbor also owns two canadian geldings. For such a rare horse, ironically, there are four on our road! I am also one of the co-founders of New England Cheval Canadien. Check it out!

I just love this breed! My two mares are awesome...

I ride three Canadiens owned by Bob Eisenstein and Leonor Rodruigez - my icon is Kaboose, she is 10 or 11 now, and Penny (5 this summer) and Ruby (4 this summer). I love them a lot - plus they are HUGE fun to work with!!

I have owned my Canadian Gelding for 3.5 years. He is amazing now, but had an awful left stifle problem once he arrive here from Edmonton. Thru many ups and downs, last summer I finally found the cure. Hills and lots of them. He also loves to be outside 24/7, and have found a place that offers that as well! He has now a very happy camper.
His registered name is Cartrs Blackjack Jalapeno. Usually call him Blackjack or Handsome. With all this snow, he can be left for long periods of time and just hop on him and have a great ride.
I also volunteer for CHHAPS, which is a group for the Canadian horse. They hold an annual show in Maple Ridge, BC (MREC). It is a great place to meet other Canadian owners with their horses.

Hi, We are in Saanichton near the fairgrounds on Vancouver Island. We bought our first Canadien 4.5 years ago. We travelled up Island, got caught in a snow storm. When we arrived we saw this stunning, shining black pregnant mare, she took our breath away but I still was not ready to commit, I wanted to wait and be sure and also had never been involved with a foal before. As we were chatting we made a HUGE parental mistake. We took our eyes and ears off our 4 and three year old boys. The youngest had managed to go back to "see the gee gee". When we raced in he was stood alone in the stall underneath the mare with a huge grin on his face. She was stood with her feet PINNED to the ground with a look on her face which said, "MOVE HIM". I looked at my husband and said "thats the kind of horse I want to own". We paid and she was delivered a few days later. She had her lovely colt one night with us all watching in 15 mins. He is now 3 and we have just green broke him ourselves, he was literally born broke. He has been ridden every day since and is amazing in what he can do. My friend who has worked with us for 3 years just bought him yesterday and he is staying here for stabling. (Smiles all round). We bought our second mare last year and before we gelded him we bred them and we now have ULA, born April 30th 2008. She is STUNNING. Imprinted at birth and already halter trained. This breed is so people orientated . Be warned though once you love them there is no way out! We have 4 now............
