Our horses also become very sweet and cooperative if they see one of the others getting attention. Twist in particular will try very hard to do what you want in order to get fussed over. :)

We try to make sure that people know that they are Canadian Horses and we share information about the breed with anyone who asks about them. We also passport and show our horses under their registered names.

Oh you are so right about you not being able to force a Canadian Horse. Boy they can be stubborn sometime. One of my mares gets into these moods when she refuses to pick up her feet to be picked. I just chill for a bit , give some attention to one of the other horses, then come back to her and low and behold she is ready to co-operate. Good job to all for getting those horses out there but please make sure everyone and anyone knows it's a Canadian. I usually keep a handout sheet explaining the breeds history with me to hand out to anyone that ask what kind of horse is that?

Congrads Queenrider on Scooters successful show. Sorry I didn't comment earlier. Just a little busy. Welcome Lillian. I always thought Canadians would make great Therapeutic mounts. They seem to have a very unusual attachments to us humans. Good for you. Gotta love them.

Hehe. I have seen that blank look. She needs a good trainer... and also probably a lot more leg! ;) I see so many people not using their legs and seat, and blaming the horse for not going nicely.

It is so true that a good trainer is critical, and often very hard to find! I have heard trainers and riders complain about Canadians, but the problem is that they are very smart horses and so one must alter their training techniques to suit the horse. Too many trainers get stuck on one way of training all horses, and instead they should be tailoring training to each individual horse. This is important regardless of the breed, but is all the more critical when dealing with intelligent 'thinking' horses like Canadians. If you try to force them into something and get into a battle, you are not going to win. You have to work with them and patiently bring them along. That is actually one thing that I love about Canadians... training them means forming a partnership. It is the best (maybe the only) way to succeed with them.... but once you forge that partnership, wow! The result is spectacular (as you are getting with Scooter! :))!

There was another Canadian at the show I had Scooter at.  The rider/owner was complaining that she had trouble keeping her horse ont he bit at anything other than the walk.  I mentioned she needed a new trainer  but just got a blank look in return.

Canadians do well in dressage.  They just need a good trainer.  The good trainers are a small supply though!

Marley showing at Palgrave with our friend/trainer Jessica. After barely two months of training she finished four tests (a 10 hour day. ugh!), got two ribbons, and scored 6s and a 7 for her gaits! I so look forward to seeing how she will do next year after some solid training.

Canadians can rock the show ring! :) I would love to see more of them out there.

Congratulations on Scooter's great scores! :) I love seeing Canadians in the show ring, showing off what they can do!

We took our new mare to her first big dressage show last weekend. We wanted to see how she would react to the hectic environment of a big show and she did great! We put her in four classes, which meant a 10 hour day, and she was a good girl through it all. She handled all kinds of new things such as wearing strange 'clothes' for her ride to the show, flags, loudspeakers, forklifts, water trucks, crowds etc... and she completed all four tests despite being in dressage training for less than 10 weeks! She even came home with some pretty ribbons. :) We look forward to wowing the judges next year! ;)

We will be attending the UCD show with our horses. It is less than a month away!
