Last post of my training trip :(

Posted on July 13, 2008 at 6:16pm 2 Comments

My trip has now been finished off with three days at Talland. They were three very good days and as always, I learnt a lot.

Every day this time and last time I was there I rode a mare called Jovie, who I got along well with. She was trained to about Prix St George, which is perfect for me to learn on. She had to be ridden with a very soft contact and mainly from the seat, as if you had too much contact she just went faster and faster! 'Quick-releases' helped her come up in front and… Continue

Yorkshire Riding Centre....hmmm

Posted on July 13, 2008 at 4:59am 2 Comments

What I'm about to say is not inspirational, as my trip to Yorkshire has been very... interesting, to say the least. The area of Yorkshire is fine and very beautiful, with big farms and delicious tea, but Yorkshire Riding Centre is a place I would rather not go to again.

I was supposed to stay at YRC (Yorkshire Riding Centre) for the week, but after the first night and the first day of group lessons I was not very impressed. The second day was not any better. I didn't come halfway… Continue

Now I am in the UK where we are currently looking for property around the Cotswolds area. All of the little villages are so pretty! I love the cream teas and good english pub food here.

For the past three days I have been at Talland School of Equitation which is run by Pammy Hutton, a very well-known international dressage rider and trainer, and you know why when she… Continue

Exam Day 2!

Posted on June 17, 2008 at 12:30pm 0 Comments

I am so relieved that our exams are over! We started early this morning, with barn duty at 6.30. The dressage tests started at 8.30 so we had to be on and warming up by at least 8am. I think I was quite nervous because I was really quiet and serious and held a straight face for most of the morning. Usually I act normal before a performance, but I guess I didn't know what to expect because being in front of German judges and riding an unfamiliar horse isn't exactly the most ideal situation!… Continue

End of week 1 in Germany

Posted on June 15, 2008 at 12:48pm 2 Comments

This week has been hard work! I am glad it is the weekend and we get a bit of a break, although we still had to ride once yesterday and do barn duty this morning, which is okay because the rest of the weekend is fun!

Yesterday (Saturday) after our riding and lungeing lesson we went back to Stall Ramsbrock, i rode the same young horse as last time, and then we went to the second property of Heinrich Ramsbrock which was where all of the foals and broodmares were kept and it… Continue

haha yeah. I've had him for almost two years now and he's really starting to get the collection and everything for the upper levels so it's exciting. He's the first young horse I've trained up the levels and it's been fun.

He's by Krack C who's by Flemmingh. His mom's name is Nadine's Monday but I don't think there are any big names on her side.

Thanks! Cool. Yeah, I made it to Nationals last year with another horse but I missed out on the team by .2%! Oh, well...haha
So this year I'm trying with my young horse and hopefully we'll be ready to compete.

That's awesome! Yeah, that would be so cool if we met each other!

Awesome pics! You look like a great rider. Do you own all the ponies you ride? Good luck with all your riding!

Yes really looking forward to it now, if a little bit nervous! It will be very strange not to have my own horse there!!I had wanted to do a course for maybe a week or so, in order to improve my riding skills rather than just ending up doing a horsey holiday as such, and found it very difficult to find something suitable. I did lots of google searches, and in particular in relation to Germany as I think their schooling methods and training seems to be the best!!After a lot of searching I found Alex Wortmanns site & I e-mailed him to see where he was running the courses! He sounds very impressive!!Looking forward to learning lots!
I see that you went to Talland too...I did look into going there but to be honest I think the course in Vechta offers a lot more in terms of value for money, but I will hopefully try Talland at some stage too!!
How did you find your school horse in vechta?
Thanks for all of your help with the tack shops!!Looking forward to the shopping too,we have such a bad selection in Ireland in terms of boots-really bad selction of sizes, so everything needs to be ordered in & the prices are crazy!!
Not staying at hotel unfortunately, I think only one person is staying there!!Though i'm sure we'll be there for a drink or two!!

I would post your blogs right there in the discussions section, because they are quite interesting and you will be posting directly to dressage people. You could also ask questions and advice. I have done that and have gotten some very good advice.
You could also add the blog to the regular blog area because members have been following your travels. p.s. Too bad about your latest experience!

Yes you should definitely join. Especially because there was a really interesting bit of news posted there today regarding the Australian dressage team. The politics sounded so complicated, it would be great if an Australian explained them!!

Just read your latest blog. You have a super writing style! Are you a member of the Eurodressage group? I'm sure everyone in that group would be interested if you added your blogs as discussions there. I look forward to reading more as things progress!
