What a Busy Few Weeks

Well I have had a busy few weeks since Dijon the "hony" came to the indoor.

Heather did the first few weeks of backing and then I had to take over working all the ponies. Heather's done an excellent job on Contessa. Dijon and Mark are both steady enough at the walk and trot for this mid-40 rider to feel safe and comfortable on.

After a week off due to my allergies making me dizzy and queasy, I was back in the saddle today. Warming up with Contessa to get my…

Beware the pissy prancing purple pony!

Thursday, March 4th - Well, the concept of getting ‘two-fer’ work sessions isn’t looking quite as bright as it did this morning. I had decided to use ‘Sundance’ a 3 yr old welsh cross pony for her partner for the first outing. He is the Only equine on the property who is smaller than Belle is, he has been ponied before and he is calm and not prone to nip or bite. Seemed like a…

making the commitment and keeping it to get fit

So the weather hasn’t been kind – but I am determined to keep up the work schedule. First of all, I found a GREAT on line article about conditioning for your first endurance ride. It is from the Southeast Endurance Riders Association. The link is below.…

Getting fit to endurance race

Belle’s Blog

So, my friend Robin has a talented endurance horse. And a dream of going to Tevis. But she also bought a new business last year, and has Not been riding. So, my resolution for this year was to make…

The Checklist: Everything You'll Need At The Show

This week I’ve set up a complete list of everything you need to take with you to the competition. I know it looks a little overwhelming, but you’ll find most of it can be kept in your trailer for the season.

Needing only to pack and unpack the perishables before and after your trip.

I keep this printed and on a clip board in my trailer for quick reference. If I run out of something at the show I put it on my clip board to replace when I get home.

This way, getting ready to travel… Continue

2009 - What a Year It's Been (endurance wise)

Just looking back over my 2009 season and all I can say is "Wow, what a year it has been!"

First off I would like to thank the Graber Family in Indiana who purchased my matched pair of Hackney Horse fillies last October thus giving me the funds to make 2009 possible. Also to Leigh Gowdy-King for letting me pair up with Bask N Coins+ (aka Loosi). Many more thanks to my pit crew Vivianne Macdonald and Art King and all the others who have helped along the way.

I started off… Continue

Ride of a Lifetime - 4th Appaloosa National Championship Endurance Ride

Well as you know Loosi is a known runaway that had had issues just a month prior to us heading back to Cuyahoga Valley National Park, just south of Cleveland OH.

Now that the bolting issue had hopefully been solved and the fact that I had come down and ridden the National trail on a CTR in July, I was hoping and planning to ride to win!

We arrived at camp on Thursday and met up with fellow Arab/Appy rider who was hosting the Appaloosa rider dinner. I had gathered up… Continue

Finally a breather and time to update

Okay now where was I? ..... Oh yeah, I'd just finished the amazing Shore to Shore in Michigan riding 150 miles in 4 days.

Well from there it was back to work and conditioning. The following weekend we had 2 working students come for the week at my parents' farm - Heather and Steph. Heather's mom used to come stay with us when we were teenagers as her parents bought her a pony from us and later she sent the pony's son to us to be broke and shown.

What a week that was the… Continue

Hello everyone, my name is Paige and I'd like to welcome you to my blog! I am currently a Senior in college and am studying English and Music Performance. I was recently certified as an equine massage therapist, and three months ago I bought my first horse, a Thoroughbred mare.

MIchigan's Shore to Shore Endurance Ride Week - Aug 2-5/09 (or what I did anyways)

Friends have been talking about what an awesome experience the Shore to Shore Endurance Ride Week is so finally we bit the bullet in order to work on Bask N Coins' (Loosi's) ApHC Medallion.

On Sat drove to the beautiful town of Oscoda MI to the base camp for the first 2 days of competition. Having met most of the ride management (manager, head vet, timer) at the White River Ride we were made to feel like long lost friends.

We quickly set up camp and then headed back down… Continue

Competive Trail Success in Ohio July 11 & 12

The last weekend in June saw me in Kemptville Stewarding the Tulip Arabian Horse Shows. I think this was my 6 or 7th trip to Steward the Tulip show. Great bunch of people in the Ottawa area and some lovely horses. Always a good time in the Ottawa area.

Then I had to work a weekend while the boss was on holidays. Finally I got back on the road for July 10-12th to head to the OAATS Celebration CTR in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park just north of Akron OH. A 7 hr trip with a stop for… Continue

100 miles completed only 250 left to ride plus one sport pony show over

Well I've completed 100 of the 350 Endurance miles I've set as a goal this season.

First was the Aprilfest in May ride on May 17th where we finished the 50 mile Endurance ride in 7:02 for 21st place. Not bad as I didn't consider either Loosi or I fit yet for the season so we rode slowly for the completion.

Last weekend (June 13) saw us in Hesperia MI, about 1 hr north of Grand Rapids saw the Canadian invasion of the White River Summer Ride. 18 Canadian horses… Continue

Itching to get back into the competition saddle...

Friday, October 24, 2008

Well, sort of at the last minute (and with my hubbys blessing as diesel prices are dropping) I have decided to go and compete in the NATRC Region 4 LAST CHANCE at the OK Corral CTR next weekend in Stillwater OK. I went this ride last year as I was "chasing points" and it was the last of the season and it was a blast.

This year I'm not chasing points as it's only the 2nd NATRC ride I've done this year so I'm just going for fun and to get Amira and I… Continue
