What we do when we can’t Cross the River

What we do when we can’t Cross the River

My sister and I took a 4-day weekend off from work to get some trail riding in.  Just like the one we tried a few weeks previous, we couldn’t cross the river the first 3 days.  That meant doing the hill leading to the river with Cruiser and Ranger and working Cole in the arena.

Having Ellen watch me and Cole during our rides was very helpful.  She gave me all kinds of good advice, and she took video with her…

Who is going trail riding tomorrow?

The weather is pretty good. I am going to pony Stewie off of Joya today. Let's see how that works out, but first she must give little Leany a lesson. She absolutely loves her.

So who is going out tomorrow? I am planing to go sometime late morning early afternoon.

October 11th 2010

I was asked once, where I wanted to go with horses and what I wanted to learn. My reply was that I wanted to be able to work with horses and pay my bills that way. I dont care about getting rich, all I want to do is get by while doing what I love.

I think my answer was amusing b/c this person repeated it to another person like I told her the funniest joke and she just had to share it. I must say that that made me feel about an inch tall but I refuse to let that get me down…

Ladies: if you buy a Roping saddle, buy a vibrator too, you'll need one

For years, I bought, sold, repaired and even made a few western saddles. I loved to carve leather, so I would spend hours, days, and even weeks making elaborate designs on the fenders, swells and skirts.

Here is the funny thing, I was like the shoe maker who did not own a pair of his own shoes.

Neither did my husband.…

Fall in Calgary

Typical for southern Alberta, nothing is typical in weather. So, this weekend we had 25C and 22C or so. And after the crappy summer we had, I HAD to get outside with little Maggie.

Friday was work in the arena, 25 minutes because that's as long as I could be VERY specific and demanding with her about being forward and answering the aids promptly. She did well. This was my first ride after my trainer was on her Wednesday.

Saturday, pure decadence, I went and…

A Horse version of h-o-r-s-e

We've been staying busy at work. I've also have a couple of other projects going on that keep me from my weekly blogging. We continue our riding three times a week. We recently had some fun playing an old fashioned game of h-o-r-s-e. You know, the backyard basketball game where you call your shot. Here's our latest… Continue

In the Summertime

It's hot. BUT, we didn't let that stop us from riding. Saturday morning I had scheduled a second stack of alfalfa to be delivered. It was a good price and, while I may have an excess now, I won't have to worry about making time to go pick it up.

Most of the rest of the day was dedicated to doing chores. About 4:30 we convinced ourselves it had cooled down… Continue

Pictures from our Sunday Ride

Took the camera with us on the Sunday ride. We rode past a feed lot. The cows were an exciting addition to our ride.

These pigeons were on the bank. When they took off it was pretty cool looking. The camera didn't catch quite the spectacular view I had hoped.…

Catching up

Well, it has been pretty eventful working with Sky.

Monday, we went on our weekly trail ride.

The kayaks were going to eat her, she was convinced of this. She's a very smart horse and she kept having to look back to make sure they either weren't there or weren't following her.

We did some hills, some galloping, some cantering, trotting, and all and all, had a great ride.

But the highlight of our ride....

We jumped for our first…
