There is a vast difference between 185 for a lesson and 85----
and yes I see the opinions as being quite valid, and now I agree that if you yourself show- and your students do , as well ,then the prices may be more appropriate.

I pay $185 for a 45-minute private with my favorite clinician and pay it gladly. I take away so much from each clinic. I'm a better instructor and trainer because I do pay this money and ride with this clinician 5 times a year. I think what matters is that you feel you're getting your money's worth.

My instructor charges $85/lesson. I never found it unfair. It's not a cheap sport for instructors or students. For a carefully selected, big name clinician, $400-$500 for a weekend seems pretty reasonable. I would certainly want to find someone I thought would compliment my approach to riding, and really be able to nitpick. I can't imagine paying that kind of money to toy with ideas with which I wasn't already acquainted.

Auditing a clinic is like watching a movie. One better pay attention to every detail, and hope the accents are not too much....... with a movie you get the ability to lowever or add to voices.
Perhaps it is just me but a weekend of rides for 400 or 500 is really high.

is not easy to do.

Some clinicians here in the midwest require three rides over the course of a weekend clinic of 3 or 4 days charging $125 to $150 or more. These are one hour private lessons.

When an international clinician comes to a local barn it can cost $100 a day or more to audit!

Hard to justify spending so much money except that we all need continuing education, just need to pick the instructor with great care.

the important thing here is to learn and to be able to relax to hear and listen and absorb and understand
and 2 or 3 days can do this
not one 50 minute one time thing with a clinician who is timing the ride- and wondering if there shall be a horsie they want to ride in the next 4 hrs......
and if the clinician has an accent or the indoor is not good for sound then we riders lose so much important stuff and we are constantly saying WHAT?

then do a 3 day clinic the airfair will be a bit less - and then they can see more students- but for those who like to go to a clinic- no one is going to be able to turn you around in 50 min. but perhaps over 3 days you can work on one big thing and get it clearer- so 50 min at $65 or $75.00
and the clinician makes $200 for the 3 days---- or whatever
the host barn owner gets their lessons for free and all are happy and money is made and people learn

wouldnt it be nice to have a better fee for this- instead of the clinician making his or her house payment for one day of work.?

Its at RCRA, Newmarket Ontario.
RCRA have been great with organizing this clinic and have put new footing in the main dressage arena. If you would like me to email you an entry form let me know.
Thanks
