Hi Laura,
I actually use the Wintec girth for every horse I ride. I am laughing as I receommend this, because it is the ONLY thing I recommend from Wintec, but I use their girhs exclusively, because they are the only ones that I can count on to not cause girth sores. I don't even know why, but there it is. No horse I have ever ridden, even the most susceptible ones, have ever gotten a girth sore with a Wintec girth. You will have to wait until the sore is healed, because it won't reverse the sore, but it won't cause a new one. And I am in Florida, where girth sores abound because of the heat and humidity. Good luck--girth sores are incredibly frustrating!

My horse is having trouble with a small recurrent girth sore. I'm a bit mystified by this because I'm using a a well sized, padded leather dressage girth covered with a shearling cover which I launder regularly. I groom him carefully prior to our ride, so the issue is not dirt. I'm ready to purchase a new girth but would like recommendations from folks who have successfully dealt with similar problems.--Don't know if it makes a difference or not but this is a short backed horse. Thanks

Hi Denise, Welcome! I sympathize with your situation. It is most certainly difficult trying to show in the geographic area that you are in. I sincerely hope that FEI continues to an even more strong position against Rollkur; its members as well as dressage enthusiasts everywhere (meaning, all of us) must be strong enough in their convictions to continue to pressure the committees and Administration of the FEI to condemn this practice for the horses' sake. Kudos to you that you are doing your part, and more. Again, welcome!

Hello everyone - I'm new here. Being no longer what you may consider an active competitor, I am so disgusted at the modern trend to Low Deep Round / Rollkur / Hyperflexion. The fact I live in Germany on the Dutch border means I am probably cobfronted with this practice more than most riders in the US or Canada. The nations who are mostly ( but not only) guilty of this practice are the Dutch and the Danish. The Dutch can easily be recognised when in tails by their orange lapels.
On Facebook I have started a group called "Anti Low Deep and Round, or Rollkur by any other name" and would be very pleased if all you dressage lovers would take a look, and if you like what you see, join.
The admins here - please feel free to "steal" any links on the FB group you may like!

Bets regards
Denise

I have less issue with the one on the gray as the reins were loose much of the time and the horse did not appear to be uncomfortable, but the bay with the double bridle made me somewhat sick.

Video of warm-up frames at Wiesbaden. What do you think?

slc2--you are lucky (and so are the horses in your area). It is not such a common sight in my area, either, until the "top international" riders show up (in the past--our season is over now, and so we shall see what happens next season).

Jan J.--that is wonderful news!! so, one question--did the steward catch/penalize the one offending rider?

Hi, everyone:

I was riding at a really big show this past weekend, and I have to say that the warm-up ring was a very different place compared to the past few years. There was only one case of really offensive riding in the warm-up ring (the pretzel neck and a LOT of spurring). Some of the pros who've been the worst offenders in the warm-up rings in recent years were remarkably understated in their warm-ups, and the Steward was regularly checking the warm-up rings - a major difference this year! I have to say that it was much more pleasant to be in the warm-up arenas this time, without the sound of the whips going continually and the grunts and stressed breathing of distressed horses.

I did not think that these directives would have such an immediate impact, but I was and am very glad that they have!

I was emailed the diagram portion of the FEI Steward's guide from the IDRC, and I read through it, and think it is a very good start. It gives the stewards the power to enforce the statement published by the FEI back in Feb (or was it March?). Hooray today, for the FEI standards commission.
