will overzelous stewards be looking for something in a rider they do not like?
Will fruit to one be assumed to be specifically an apple? The wording is both ambitious and it is double talk- and there is not one concise exact way to say what exactly is rolkur- and even the silly practice of driving into long and low will this now be the new happy medium.
Unlike a specific drug not being tolerated- I have to wonder how indeed this will stop the practice- except not do it in the warm up yard with others watching before your classes.
Once - in my not ever so humble opinion full bridles were allowed in 4th level- or is it lower now?... the work to educate the rider and horse for the advanced work was simplified- for the rider who could not do it with a snaffle,
and more horses became the scape goat of hard hands and the quick fix, by way of their mouth.
Don't ask , don't tell...... must be a virus or something.........:(

OK guys, the first of the federations has weighed in the the Rollkur decision. I spoke with Equine Canada CEO Akaash Maharaj this afternoon.
Here's when he had to say.

hmm..I was on the wrong page, and just now read through the most recent comments. slc2, I am sorry that you have such a low opinion of competition in general. I am not trying to be argumentative here, and I was losing faith in our FEI (and yes, there are still things to fix), but the language they used in their statement is as strong as it can be. I was very surprised (pleasantly!) that they went further than just speaking against it in the warm-up arena of dressage...they actually condemned it in competition AND warmup, and condemned the priactice in training at home as well. Further, the statement gives the stewards and the judges the power to not condone this any longer. If you know who some of the most outspoken people against this practice are, I believe you would have a bit more confidence that it will be castigated in short order. Yes, it takes time, especially when the proponents of this "method" (abuse) were so cunning in using the European legal system in squashing anyone who would dare to speak our about it, or gather evidence to prove that it is abusive. Yes, it took too long....yes, it will take even longer to see the effect of the statement, but we are also charged with being the eyes and ears to stop this. We have to be courageous enough to make formal complaints to show management--yes, it will cost you $50.00 in the USA, but what are the horses worth? Do you have the courage to put your money where your heart is? I do, and I have. Have you? (I do not mean this as an insult; just a challenge--not only to slc2, but to everyone who thinks that competition is evil these days). Let's do something about it instead of complaining on the boards.

On a related note, and for eveyrone who is interested in the well-being of the horses, there is some breaking news out of the FEI that Barbara F. has referred to on Eurodressage. This is truly a momentous decision by the FEI, and goes further in its condemnation of rollkur (hyperflexion) than I thought they would. It is a good read! Happy news for the horses and we who defend their well-being!

You are right about that!

I think it was sadly ambiguous. It sounds like RK is only against the rules if you aren't really good at it and you aren't hiding behind the magic words of "low, deep, round".

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to say that I created this group for you all to share your accomplishments and discuss in a friendly manner different aspects of dressage. I know that not everything in dressage is perfect and everyone has their own opinion on these touchy subjects, but I would appreciate it if we could all state our opinions without giving insults or being rude to one another. Dressage is my passion, too, and I am always looking to learn from any new perspectives I hear, I just think we would all have a much more pleasant experience and not turn people off if we could keep it friendly. Thanks!

Catherine
