I have been preparing for a clinic this weekend at Infinity Farm. It’s the my favorite clinic every year: Fundamentals of Dressage. One of my clients asked if it was going to be the same as last year. (Eye roll -is this a trick question?)
Nope, the fundamentals of dressage have not changed in the last year, or the last century for that matter. Dressage is the art of riding with balance…

I usually consider myself to be a relatively cool headed human being, able to consider and argue without much volatility, but when I hear people debating as to whether dressage should be in the Olympics, I feel the need to hop around and screech like a Borneo ape. All arguments fly from my brain and I am left with me just baring my teeth and throwing around objects in the room. …

This year has been a stellar one for the sport as the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) approved dressage as an event in United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) and United States Dressage Federation (USDF). Next week, I'm going to Brazil to visit Interagro Farm, the largest breeder of Lusitanos in the world. There are about 600 horses being raised there - 30 are being brought to Florida for an auction in February. I'm getting a preview. The photos on the web site, lusitanocollection are gorgeous. I know they are champion dressage horses as the entire Brazil dressage team were comprised of Lusitanos. Now I've learned that a Lusitano won the Beginner Novice division in Eventing last year. As a…

Remember that dressage simply means "Training". You don’t need to work in a regulation dressage arena to "do" dressage. Every second you’re on your horse, you’re either training or "untraining"! So you’re always doing dressage no matter what kind of horse you have or what style of riding you’re doing.
Think about how you can continue to train your horse yet add some fun and variety to his life.
