I’ve often been asked whether wild and domestic horses are the same or different from one another. Here’s my take on it.…

Well, I settled for free lunging and wind sprints today. Not enough hours in the day. Still, for the week, Belle got ridden 3 times and free lunged twice, and I can’t recall when she has had that consistent of work schedule! Still, I need to…

Well I have had a busy few weeks since Dijon the "hony" came to the indoor.
Heather did the first few weeks of backing and then I had to take over working all the ponies. Heather's done an excellent job on Contessa. Dijon and Mark are both steady enough at the walk and trot for this mid-40 rider to feel safe and comfortable on.
After a week off due to my allergies making me dizzy and queasy, I was back in the saddle today. Warming up with Contessa to get my…

BEGINNING THE DANCE
As a teen, I would daydream about riding my horse. We would be one unit, my horse would be light and expressive, we were dancing. I pursued my dreams with the idea that if I tried…

In their everyday need for survival, horses have created a communication system that is noteworthy. Wild horses are like a society of nomadic people who have leaders of leaders. Because nature’s habitat for horses is open range-land,…

So you are on your way to the barn. It's a beautiful day, and you have a perfect vision of what your ride will be like. You envision your horse standing at the gate waiting for your arrival, excited to leave his friends and hay, and to come inside and hang out with you.
When you get to the barn your horse has its hindquarters facing you, his head buried in the hay and all…

Caddymaster "Caddy" My 12 yo swedish gelding by Master out of an Indus mare (same mare line as Minna Tinde's Don Charly) has shown PSG. I've earned both my bronze and silver medal on him. Presently he is coming back after a month of with a mystery illness (Lyme?)
Worked in snaffle still focusing on the connection, straightness and speed…

My trainer doesn't know everything. This, of course, is no surprise to her. It came as somewhat of a revelation to me, however. I've become so insecure in my own horsekeeping skills, that somehow I managed to convince myself that those I rely on know it all, and that my own pool of knowledge was more akin to a quickly evaporating puddle.
In our lesson yesterday, Meg and I discussed Sammie's recent training. In mid-December, I handed the reins over to Meg for full…

I had the pleasure of sharing one of my ‘Dance with Horses’ clinic with Joy, a lovely lady from Denmark. I do so enjoy teaching and sharing my message and it’s so nice to see so many people from all over the world finding resonance with my Method.…

Well Pixie is solidly broke to ride and just needing some final polishing that can be accomplished quickly in the spring. Heather, the pony rider, informed us a couple of weeks ago that she was going back to school (always a good choice!), so we would soon be without a small, lightweight rider for starting ponies.
Quickly we switched Dijon for Pixie at the indoor arena. Again he's been backed over the last 2 years and has maybe had a week's worth of riding - nothing…

I had an unusual life growing up in the desert with horses. Our horses were able to run free most of the day in a herd and go where they wished. They were loose and there were no fences to keep them from doing exactly what they…
